Kim Hye Soo and Lee Sun Kyun To Star In 'Precious Woman'
Here's an interesting premise for a film. The leading female character in the film "Precious Woman" is the second-in-command in a crime organization that grows into a big conglomerate. The man who loves her will do anything to win her heart.
But it won't be an easy heart to win, considering that she is a woman who gives gangsters their marching orders? Does earning her respect mean he will have to break the law?
This noir crime story stars Kim Hye Soo, 45, and Lee Sun Kyun, 40.
Kim will play Na Hyun Jung, a woman who is used to calling the shots. Lee has been cast as Sang Hoon, the man who tries to win her affections.
According to the Korean media outlet Joongang Daily, Kim Hye Soo took the part because she found the script very interesting and in general is interested in the crime noir genre.
During her almost 30-year career as an actress, Kim has appeared in dozens of dramas, most recently starring in "Queen of the Office" and having a cameo in "Flower Boy Ramen Shop." But she has been busier in films. Her recent hit movies include the 2015 film "Coin Locker Girl," the 2013 film "Face Reader" and the 2012 film "The Thieves." She also played a female crime boss in "Coin Locker Girl," a rare female-driven noir film. Her role as a ruthless mob boss required a makeover that made her look less attractive.
Taking that role was a difficult decision, not because of the reverse makeover but because of the challenge of making the character real.
"I was particularly fascinated by the fact that women were not in the periphery of power but at the core of it. I think any actress would've been attracted to this. My confidence increased as I prepared for the role."
That may be why she is ready to take on a similar role, although this time the character may look as glamorous as Kim does in real life.
Lee Sun Kyun recently played the lead role in the drama "Miss Korea" with Lee Yeon Hee. His past drama roles have shown that he can play both mean and sweet characters. He played the mean chef who falls for Gong Hyo Jin in "Pasta" and the Gong Yoo's sweet composer cousin in "Coffee Prince."
His film roles have focused mostly on romance and action, but he did play a detective having the worst day in "A Hard Day." His role in that film earned him critical praise.
It is the first time that the two actors will work together. The release date has yet to be confirmed.
