Police have questioned actor Kim Soo-hyun's attorney over allegations involving a possibly AI-fabricated audio file that has sparked public controversy and legal battles over defamation and false accusations.

According to authorities at the Seoul Gangnam Police Station, attorney Bang Sung-hoon of LKB & Partners was summoned for questioning on June 18 at 2 p.m. in relation to a complaint filed by Kim Soo-hyun's camp.
The legal team alleges that a now-viral audio file, purported to be a posthumous recording of late actress Kim Sae-ron implicating Kim in an underage relationship, was artificially generated.
"We have completed questioning the legal representative who filed the complaint," a police official said Monday, referring to the case involving Kim Se-ui, head of the controversial YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute, which released the audio on May 7.
The clip allegedly features Kim Sae-ron claiming she had been in a relationship with Kim Soo-hyun since her middle school years.
The bereaved family later stated the recording was made on January 10, 2025, roughly a month before her death. However, Kim's team has strongly disputed the authenticity of the clip.
"The released audio file is completely fabricated and believed to have been created using artificial intelligence (AI) or similar technology," Kim Soo-hyun's representatives said in an earlier statement.
"We have filed lawsuits against Kim Yong-ho and members of Kim Sae-ron's bereaved family for defamation and false accusation."
The investigation now includes a separate complaint filed by Kim Soo-hyun's team on June 23, naming both Kim Yong-ho and the late actress's relatives.
The complaints cite violations under South Korea's Information and Communications Network Act and the Stalking Prevention and Deterrence Act.
Police are reportedly coordinating a schedule to summon staff from the Garosero Research Institute for further questioning. "Investigations are ongoing," the official added, confirming they are looking into both defamation and false accusation claims.
Kim Sae-ron, known for her breakout roles in films like A Brand New Life and The Man from Nowhere, was found dead in her Seoul apartment on February 16, 2025, at the age of 24.
Her family has since released additional photos and KakaoTalk messages allegedly exchanged with Kim Soo-hyun, further complicating the public narrative.
The case has reignited national discussions around the ethical use of AI-generated content and the responsibility of public figures and platforms to verify digital media before dissemination.
Representatives for Kim Soo-hyun and Garosero Research Institute have not issued further statements as of press time.
