Youngest Girls Generation Member Seohyun Confirmed For "Passionate Love"

Seohyun, the youngest member of Girls Generation, has agreed to take the role of Han Yu Rim, a student of veterinary science in the upcoming melodrama "Passionate Love. Han Yu Rim is the first love of the drama's male lead, Kang Mu Yeol, played by Sung Hoon.

Her character is described as someone who is smart, pretty and warm-hearted so its no wonder that the male lead Kang Mu Yeol falls in love with her at first sight and pretends to be a college student to date her.  He's a wealthy, handsome young man from a dysfunctional family.

It will not be Seohyun's first acting role. Along with other members of Girls Generation, she had a cameo appearance in the KBS sitcom "Unstoppable Marriage." Fellow band members Yuri and Soo Young had larger roles in that drama. But it is Seohyun's first time playing a significant role. While she will only appear in four episodes, her character's influence will be felt throughout the drama.

The producers for the show requested her casting and after much deliberation her agency decided it was a good idea.

"The character's image fit well with Seohyun's personality so we decided to go with it," said a representative of SM Entertainment, her management agency.

Seohyun studied acting at Dongguk University and although she had only one cameo role, she has appeared on several variety shows. Aside from performing with Girls Generation, she formed a virtual couple with CNBlue's Jung Yong Hwa on "We Got Married." The YongSeo couple filmed their last episode on April 2011. She was also an emcee for the show "Gayo Daejun.

Sung Hoon plays her star-crossed love interest. He was last seen in the drama "Faith: The Great Doctor." He also appeared in "New Tales of a Gisaeng" and "Bodyguard."

Choi Yoon Young has also signed on for the melodrama, which shows how one generation's problems can negatively affect the next generation. Choi, appeared in "My Daughter, Seo Young." She also played a teacher in "The Queen's Classroom" and Ki-Bbeum in "Queen of Reversals." In this drama, she will play Han Yoo Jung, a girl who tragically loses her family but whose strong spirit helps her overcome all the challenges that confront her. Both Kang Mu Yeol and his half brother Hong Soo Hyuk will fall in love with her. 

Lee Won Geun will play the young Kang Mu Yeol. In "Moon Embracing The Sun," he played the young Woon.

The drama's first episode will air in October.
