Microsoft Rolls Out Skype Update With Video, Floating Balloons, Halloween Costume Filters, 3D Touch Integration On Google Play Store, iTunes

Microsoft has reportedly rolled out Snapchat-style filters for Skype iOS and Android apps.

According to the Inquirer, the updated Skype app now supports video filters which users can add to their video chats by tapping the filter wand at the bottom left of the video message window. Users can also choose from among 11 filters, including floating balloons, halloween costume, ghosts, face distortion and a negative filter.

"Some moments can't be captured by words or pictures alone. Video messages allow you to record short clips and send them to your Skype contacts to be viewed at any time," a blog post  Skype said.

"They don't have to be online. Capture and share a fleeting memory, create a heartfelt reminder, or simply tell a friend or family member 'wish you were here'."

The post added, "Get started by tapping the filter wand at the bottom left of the video message window. Choose a filter to see it in action then, when you're ready, hit the record button. Add balloons to your video message to celebrate any occasion. If you're feeling goofy, change the appearance of your face to make it look rounder or longer - we love this one!"

Skype 6.5 for iPhone and iPad has also received 3D touch integration support which offers users quick access to the most used features from the home screen. Users with an iPhone 6s or an iPhone 6s Plus will now be able to force touch the Skype icon to search for Skype contacts, start a call or chat, and access the Skype dial pad.

Inside the app, users can long-press a recent conversation to check the latest instant messages or live video when on a call. A harder press will pop the conversation into a full screen. While in a conversation, if someone shares a location, photo, URL, or contact, users can also see that information.

There's also an option for users to hide or delete entire conversations from the recent conversations category, either by swiping across the contact's names or by pressing edit on the contacts. They can even delete the entire chat history from within the conversation using chat menu. Users can also share a Skype contact by tapping their contact card.

Skype 6.5 for Android and iOS is available for download via the Google Play Store and iTunes, respectively.
