Roku has launched its new affordable Roku SE streaming player just in time for the nearing holiday shopping season.

The new Roku SE streaming player runs the latest built-for-TV operating system dubbed 'Roku OS 7' and HDMI and analog outputs. The low cost device has a simple user interface and delivers 1080p video streaming.

The streaming player offers access to around 3,000 streaming entertainment channels including 300,000 movies and TV episodes. It also offers the ability to search across 20+ top streaming channels to easily check for streaming options available by price and availability. There isn't any Ethernet port meaning that users will have to rely on their home Wi-Fi for internet connectivity. The device will be compatible with the Roku Mobile App for iOS and Android devices, reported TechTimes.

The $50 Roku SE will be available on Roku's official website as well as on Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart.

According to the streaming hardware giant, the special edition Roku player will be available in the U.S. for a limited-time only during Black Friday weekend online and at select national retailers from November 26 onwards. Icing on the cake is that Roku is offering a big discount for Black Friday, slashing the price in half to $25, reported SlashGear.

"The popularity of streaming to the TV continues to grow, and streaming players are sure to be at the top of many holiday wish lists," said Roku Chief Marketing Officer Matthew Anderson in a press release about the new product.

"The Roku SE player sets a new precedent in streaming player value this Black Friday. From 4K UHD streaming with the new Roku 4, to the simple and portable Roku Streaming Stick, to the affordable Roku SE; there's a Roku player for everyone."

The company says it will also offer special deals on the Roku 3 and Roku Streaming Stick for Black Friday, which sell for about $100 and $50 respectively.

There's currently no word on whether the newly launched SE will make it to the streaming company's full-time lineup of products, or if it's just a promotional device that will promote Roku's brand in the holiday season.
