Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan have announced recently that they are giving away 99 percent of their Facebook's shares to charity.

Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan have made a ground breaking announcement on Facebook on Tuesday, Dec. 1 that they are donating 99 percent of their sites' share to charity. As a matter of fact the current value of their shares is $45 billion, according to Forbes.

"We will give 99% of our Facebook shares - currently about $45 billion - during our lives to advance this mission," wrote Zuckerberg, reported Gizmodo. "We know this is a small contribution compared to all the resources and talents of those already working on these issues. But we want to do what we can, working alongside many others," he added.

According to Forbes' Real Time Billionaires ranking, Zuckerberg is the world's 7th richest man with net worth of $46.8 billion. The couple made this announcement as a tribute to their daughter Max born just a week ago. Though Max was born last week the couple made it public only on Tuesday on their Facebook post alongside the most generous pledge.

The donated shares will reportedly go to the newly founded Chan Zuckerberg Foundation. Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan noted in their post that their foundation's vision is to bring people across the world together in an effort to improve human potential and promote equality among next generation. They have also noted that their daughter Max has already given them a "reason to reflect on the world" she would live in.

"As you begin the next generation of the Chan Zuckerberg family, we also begin the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative to join people across the world to advance human potential and promote equality for all children in the next generation. Our initial areas of focus will be personalized learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities," noted the couple.
