Kim Hyun Joong May Not Meet The December 14 Deadline For Court-Ordered DNA Test

Kim Hyun Joong may not meet with his former lover to take a paternity test before the court-ordered date. 

According to a December 10 report published by the Korean outlet Newsen, the K-pop vocalist and actor may not meet the December 14 cut-off date issued by Seoul Family Court which required the same to take a DNA test along with his ex-girlfriend. 

"It will be hard for Kim Hyun Joong to participate," said his legal representative, Lee Jae Man, in a statement published by Newsen. "We might [request] to change the date, with a pardon." 

Lee went on to discuss the complications surrounding the paternity test, due to the public nature of his career and his status as an enlisted soldier.

If Kim or his former girlfriend, who is referred to as Choi or A by Korean media, fails to comply with the court-mandated paternity test, they could be subject to a fine of approximately $8,500 USD or 10 million KRW. The alternative to the fine is a 30-day prison sentence. 

Legal representatives for the former SS501 star staunchly presented the position that Kim did not want the baby who is at the center of the controversy to continue to be used as a subject in the case. However, his lawyer maintained that he would accept responsibility for the child if his parental status was confirmed.

"We want to make sure the child is his so that he can take responsibility," said Lee. 

The on-going legal woes for Kim began in August 2014 with assault allegations delivered by his ex-girlfriend. 

Meanwhile, representatives for both parties are set to return to court on December 23.
