Kang Ha-neul Opens Up About His Claustrophobia in Latest "Traveller 2" Episode

As shown in the latest episode of the South Korean travelogue series, Traveller 2, actor Kang Ha-neul discussed his experience and struggles because of his claustrophobia.

The handsome actor, known for playing the roles in the drama "When The Camellia Blooms" (2019) and "Misaeng" (2014), shared about having the fear of being in a tight or crowded spaces, or more known as the claustrophobia, with his cast mates singer Ong Seong-wu and actor Ahn Jae-hong. In the second season of the show, the three stars are touring all around Argentina.

The first season of the show, which aired from December 2018 to January 2019, featured the actors Ryu Jun-yeol and Lee Je-hoon in Cuba. In the latest episode, which aired last March 14, Kang expressed that he suffers from severe claustrophobia. This is the main reason why he experiences a very hard time flying on airplanes. The actor added that whenever he has to fly abroad or travel somewhere, he gets a prescription beforehand for sleeping pills in order for him to relax during his travels.The show released some footage of the actor lingering in order for him to board the plane a little later than the other passengers.

Claustrophobia is known as a situational phobia or an anxiety disorder triggered by an intense fear of tight or crowded spaces. It can be triggered by being locked in a windowless room, being stuck in a crowded elevator, or driving on a congested highway, and sometimes it can lead to panic attacks. Claustrophobia is one of the most common phobias there is.

Kang later continued explaining that he has a "hard time" in crowded buses and that he mostly feels like being "suffocated" riding in cars with the windows wound up. That is the reason why he wound down the windows during a taxi ride with Ahn and Ong.

Kang Ha-neul started his career in the musical theatre, particularly in "Thrill Me "(2010), "Prince Puzzle" (2011), "Black Mary Poppins" (2012), and "Assassins" (2012).  Later in his career, he shifted to the screen, being part of the cast of the television dramas "To the Beautiful You" (2012), "The Heirs" (2013) and "Misaeng: Incomplete Life" (2014).

On September 11, 2017, Kang Ha-neul  began his mandatory military service at Korean Army Training Center.  Then, on October 24, the completion ceremony took place in which the actor was acknowledged for his ideal performance on the course of his basic training.

Kang Ha-neul was also appointed as the honorary ambassador for the Military Manpower Administration (MMA) on February 22, 2019. The honorary ceremony was held at the Air Force Hall in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. And as an honorary ambassador, the actor is required to participate in events organized by the MMA until December 2019.  Kang Ha-neul finished and completed his military service on May 23, 2019.
