'True Beauty' Webtoon Writer Expresses Her Insights about the Drama Adaptation
The author of the famous webtoon "True Beauty," Yaongyi, shares her thoughts about the soon-to-premier tvN drama adaptation!
The tvN upcoming drama "True Beauty" is based on the famous webtoon with the same title. The romantic comedy-drama will center its story on actress Moon Ga Young's character named Lim Ju Gyeong. She is very insecure with her physical appearance and uses her makeup skills to transform herself into a Goddess of beauty. When she puts on makeup, she feels more confident about herself.
She will then cross paths with Lee Su Ho, portrayed by ASTRO's Cha Eun Woo, a famous boy in school who appears to be a bit cold because he also carries his own emotional scars. They would share each other's secrets and would eventually discover how to heal their scars through love.
Another character in the drama is Hwang In Yeob, starred by Han Seo Jun. He is an uncontrollable rebel with a surprisingly warm heart. The drama will be helmed by director Kim Sang Hyub, who previously created the hit drama "Extraordinary You."
In a recent interview, the webtoon author Yaongyi shared that she felt touched to have her webtoon brought to life through a drama. She expressed that the webtoon "True Beauty" shares the story of how a person who transforms into a different individual by using makeup, and how she will face different trials and will grow maturely through her experiences. That being said, she continued to say that she hopes that the drama will realistically show the transformation of the webtoon's main character Ju Gyeong.
Yaongyi also expressed her gratification with the all-star cast. She shared that the actor she looks forward to the most is the main character Ju Gyeong (Moon Ga Young). She gives her utmost affection to her. Yaongyi reveals that she was thrilled upon discovering that Moon Ga Young had been cast as Ju Gyeong, and she is excited to see how she will portray Ju Gyeong's character.
Lastly, the author shared that she is also counting down the days till the drama's premier, and she's asking everyone to please continue to support the webtoon and drama "True Beauty."
South Korean comic artist (manhwaga), Yaongyi was born on April 24, 1991. The 29-year-old author is a former model and creator of True Beauty on LINE Webtoon. In her interview with LINE Webtoon, the writer once stated, "My dream growing up was to become a comic creator. I did have flings with many other dream jobs, but the only one that stuck around was related to art."
The "True Beauty" webtoon was serialized in 2018 and has garnered a total of 4 billion views. The webtoon has gained fans all over the world including the United States, Japan, France, and more. Upon the webtoons debut, Yaongyi was surprised and at the same time thankful for the popularity and overall positive reception of the manhwa.
The first episode of the drama "True Beauty" is set to air on December 9 at 10:30 p.m. KST and will also be available on Viki.
