Shin Hye Sun and Kim Jung Hyun Share their Experiences of Working Together in the New Drama Mr.Queen
On Dec. 09, an online press conference for the drama "Mr.Queen" was held. The two actors participated together with Director Yoon Sung Sik.
Director Yoon has shared that actress Shin Hye Sun's acting skills give justice to the character of Kim So Yong. She brings a whole new level of characterization. She will also be portraying a new kind of role that people should look forward to.
The drama director also honestly expressed his thoughts about the character of Kim Jung Hyun as King Cheoljong, "I thought Cheoljong's character would be hard to portray. He has lived with agony since childhood but was able to hide it through the years. His character is complicated and crucial."
He added, "I knew actor Kim Jung Hyun is a master of acting and I believe in his capabilities that he could portray the role of Cheoljong well."
In discussing the difference between the Korean version and the Chinese original show, Yoon Jung Sik said, "Before, when we were still in the planning stage, we just used the idea that the soul of a womanizing man took over the body of a queen. And the rest of the story is already different from the original version."
The 31-year-old Shin Hye Sun will be taking a historical drama for the first time in her career through the drama "Mr.Queen." She shared, "I had a romantic idea about wearing a hanbok (Korean traditional clothing) and the language in a tone used in historical dramas. This drama allowed me to achieve my dream of wearing a hanbok. I will do things that would seem rude to others in the Joseon dynasty, but I'll be showing it in a comedic way."
She also said that, "The script gave me two different feelings. I had fun reading it, and I feel thrilled too. I thought that it would be fun to watch as a viewer. But on the other hand, it looks tough when I think about how it would look if I already took on the role."
Shin Hye Sun also revealed that she would regret it if she didn't take the role. She will feel upset if someone else will be doing it instead of her.
Meanwhile, Kim Jung Hyun expresses, "I wanted to try a fun project. There were a lot of great historical dramas on television when I was young, and that kind of view has passed. I feel nostalgic about historical dramas. That's why I ended up joining Mr. Queen."
"I know that my role is difficult to portray, but Shin Hye Sun is such an amazing actress, and it will be great to work with her, so I took the role," he continued.
Shin Hye Sun shared that Kim Jung Hyun had made a lot of preparation for the role. They talk a lot during the shoot. The actress also praised Jung Hyun's performance saying, "He acts differently when he is with other people and me. I was surprised by his versatility. I think people will fall for his charms in portraying the role of King Cheoljong."
She also defined that Kim Jung Hyun's improvisation was great.
On the other hand, Kim Jung Hyun expressed his impression about his on screen partner, "She is a truly great actor, she provides a sense of stability, and because of that I was able to have fun while working on the drama." He also explained, "Shin Hye Sun is so considerate to the point that it would really be fun to work again together in another project."
The drama "Mr.Queen" will air its pilot episode on Dec.12 at 9 p.m (KST)
