Ahn Hyo Seop Confirmed to Star in New SBS Drama 'Hong Chun Gi'

"Dr. Romantic 2" actor Ahn Hyo Seop is officially starring in a new fantasy romance drama, titled "Hong Chun Gi"!

The actor's agency, Starhaus Entertainment, announced on December 11 that Ahn Hyo Seop has accepted the offer of SBS to star as the leading role.

"Hong Chun Gi" is a historical drama that takes place in the Joseon dynasty era. This is an adaptation of the novel with the same title penned by author Jung Eun Gwol, who also created "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" and "The Moon Embracing the Sun," both of which were also famously adapted into hit dramas.

The drama will be helmed by director Jang Tae Yoo, who worked for "My Love from the Star," "Hyena," and more.

In "Hong Chun Gi," Ahn Hyo Seop is said to portray the character of Ha Ram, an astrologer who is very unique. He is blind but has the ability to read the stars despite having lost his sight.

 As of the moment, "Backstreet Rookie" actress Kim Yoo Jung is in talks to star in the drama as well. She is offered to play the titular role of "Hong Chun Gi," the only female painter in the Joseon dynasty. On the other hand, Gong Myung will also possibly star in the drama as a different male lead.

South Korean actor and singer Ahn Hyo Seop was born on April 17, 1995. The 25-year-old actor became widely recognized for playing the main characters in Korean dramas "Still 17" (2018), "Abyss" (2019), and "Dr. Romantic 2" (2020).

The actor immigrated to Toronto, Canada when he was only 7 years old and later on he moved back to South Korea with he was 17. After coming back to his home country, he was scouted by JYP Entertainment and became their trainee. Then, an opportunity came when he was offered to debut as a member in the K-pop boy band GOT7, however, he turned down this offer to take another career path.

Ahn Hyo Seop pursued an acting career and debuted through the MBC drama, "Splash Splash Love." His popularity rose after he took his ever lead role in "Queen of the Ring" and "My Father is Strange" in 2017. Since then, he has starred in the lead role in "Still 17" and "Top Management." Ahn Hyo Seop starred alongside Park Bo Young in the romantic-comedy-fantasy-crime drama "Abyss."

Ahn Hyo Seop's latest project was in the second season of the hit medical drama "Dr. Romantic," where he portrayed the character of general surgeon Seo Woo Jin with Lee Sung Kyung as his onscreen partner. The show was a massive hit, thanks to the cast's excellent performance!
