Despite the Controversies Historical Drama 'Mr. Queen' Took the Top Spot In Viewership Ratings
Good news to all "Mr. Queen" avid fans, the drama has surpassed 10% of viewership ratings for the first time since its premiere!
Based on AGB Nielsen Korea reports, the historical fantasy-comedy drama "Mr. Queen's" fourth episode, which aired on December 20, recorded an average nationwide rating of 10.4% and a peak of 11.5%. Also, the said drama placed the top spot for its time slot across all channels, which include the broadcast networks.
It goes to show that the drama has now gained much love and support from the viewers despite it being involved in some controversies the past week.
"Mr. Queen" created a buzz online when it allegedly mocks and distorts Korean history, including its real historical figures whose characters were dramatized extremely. Some people were unhappy about the fact that 'Mr. Queen' is a drama remake of the original Chinese web drama Go Princess Go, and the story was based on a novel penned by a writer who gave out negative comments about other Korean works.

Another controversy that the drama was involved in was a script in the drama's second episode wherein a character referred to The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty as merely jirashi. In case you don't know, The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty are the annual records of the dynasty and are named the 151st national treasure of Korea and the Jirashi is a form of a newsletter that consists of unconfirmed private information, which may include rumors and speculations. In short, the information in a Jirashi may be false or made up.
In response to this, the production team of Mr. Queen issued a statement stating their side on December 15. In the said statement, the production team expressed their gratitude and thanked the viewers who support and love the drama. They also apologized to the viewers for causing discomfort to the general public. The network promised to do its best to ensure that viewers would not experience any more discomfort in the future.

" Mr. Queen" is a historical drama that tells the story of a man living in the modern era named Jang Bong hwan (Choi Jin-hyuk) who works as a chef at the President's Blue House. He is a free-spirited man, and one day, his spirit unexpectedly transferred and got trapped in the body of Queen Cheorin (Shin Hye Sun) living in the Joseon dynasty period. While King Cheol jong, starred by Kim Jung Hyun, is a kind and easy-going person, he hides a dark and suspicious side. Another character in the drama is Queen Sunwon starred by actress Bae Jong, who is the late King Sunjo's wife. She is the queen of holds the country's real power and makes King Cheoljong her puppet. Kim Tae Woo stars as Kim Jwa Geun, the younger brother of Queen Sunwon, who has high ambitions.
