Sources from the Blue House expressed that the president spent about an hour on the morning of February 11 talking to South Korean citizens through a video call via Kakao talk. As they speak on the phone, they share warm wishes with each other for the New Year.
One lucky citizen that got a chance to speak with President Moon Jae In is actor Ryu Jun Yeol. The actor has been actively encouraging everyone to protect the environment through his social media posts. He is asking the general public to reduce plastic waste, and he is also a regular donor to Greenpeace and takes part in campaigns organized by the organization.

During the call, the actor openly discussed with the president about his campaigns to reduce the amount of plastic waste that food shopping and other companies produce. Ryu Jun Yeol also opened up about his ideas for the large supermarkets and companies to make other ways to reduce using of plastics like shampoos and detergents. Buyers should bring a container to be refilled instead of purchasing a new container every time they buy their toiletries.

President Moon Jae In also questioned Ryu Jun Yeol, what made him interested in nature and the environment? The actor responded by stating that he was touched by the nature that he experienced in Africa way back from 2015 to 2016. Ryu Jun Yeol stated that the President had been his great source of strength. His request for the nation's citizens is not a difficult task to do. The actor is asking since nowadays people are used to bringing shopping baskets along with them to go shopping, we should also bring containers in the basket, so when purchasing fish or vegetables, you can put them inside your own container. That way, we can all reduce waste and take the lead in protecting the earth's environment. As citizens, it is important that we all work together.

This marks the president's first year to carry out the annual calls over video. A Blue House representative revealed that these eight persons were chosen by the President to call because they have carried out a message about courage and challenges.
