‘Love Alarm 2’,’Hellbound’, ‘Annarasumanara’ & More: These are the Upcoming Webtoon-Based Dramas to Anticipate in 2021
As viewers engage themselves in watching more Korean dramas, they are also becoming interested in searching where the dramas originated from. Every year, fresh and unique story concepts are being introduced from webtoons and finally making it on the small screen. This 2021, here are some of the much-awaited webtoon-based dramas that viewers would love to watch.
Love Alarm 2
Written by Cheon Kye Yeong, "Love Alarm'' tells the story of people who want to know their true feelings by using a love application to find out who likes them. A new techy way of discovering your feelings towards the person you like.
Through Netflix originals, the first season of this series was already released in 2019. And many were already hooked up about the story and chemistry of the characters. Kim So Hyun, Song Kang, and Jung Ga Ram are the main leads of this series. Season was supposed to air in August 2020, but due to the pandemic, it was moved to be released in 2021.

Hellbound
Choi Kyu Suk will be writing the script that was originally penned by Yeon Sang Ho in webtoon. It is about the unexpected events in human lives when a supernatural phenomenon occurs to them. They are in debate if it is a miracle or a curse.
Previously, it has been confirmed that actors Yoo Ah IN, Park Jung Min, Won Jin Ah, and Kim Hyun Joo will be taking the lead roles. It will be available on Netflix and expected to have six episodes. The director of "Train to Busan" and "Peninsula" Yeon Sang Ho will be writing and directing the project. And Lezhin Studio will be the one producing the series. The Release date is yet to be confirmed.
Annarasumanara
Ha Ii Kwon's masterpiece will now be making it on the small screen. "Annarasumanara" tells the story of a girl named Yoo Ah who dreams of becoming a magician but due to life circumstances, she decided to abandon her dream. One day she unexpectedly meets a magician and slowly starts to continue again pursuing her long-lost dream.
It would be adapted into Netflix Original Series. Meanwhile, "Love Struck in the City" star Ji Chang Wook and "True Beauty" actor Hwang In Yeop are in talks to star in this upcoming project. "Itaewon Class" director Kim Sung Yoon will be in charge of the drama.

Blue Spring From A Distance
Another campus life webtoon story will be adapted into a drama. It is also known as "Seen from a Distance, Green Spring" written by Ji Nyung. The meaning behind the title "Blue Spring From A Distance" is "if you look at life from far it looks like a comedy but if you look at it closely it is a tragedy." This will be a story of young individuals who are in their twenties fulfilling and enduring their lives as university students.
"True Beauty" star Kang Min Ah will be playing the role of the female lead, joining her are actors Park Ji Hoon and Lee Shin Young. It is scheduled to air in the first half of 2021.
Are You Leaving?
Writers Park Sun Jae and Ra Hee are the people behind this story. It is a music fantasy romance drama that will revolve around the story of love and dreams of young individuals in their twenties. Park Yeon one of the musical geniuses during the Goryeo era, Min Yoo Jung, a modern girl who loves busking, and Lee Won, a musician in the past century and currently one of the famous idols in South Korea.
Idol-turned-actors Chani of SF9 and Lee Seung Hyub of N.Flying are cast to play the lead roles. Joining them is actress Park Jung Yeon. The drama is said to have eight episodes and can be watched through Seezn and SKY channel. It is scheduled to kick off in March.
I Know But
New romance drama penned by Jung Seo will also be making its debut on the small screen. It tells the realistic love chemistry of Na Bi who wants to date but doesn't believe in love and Jae Eon who is tired of dating but also wants to have "some" (it is said to be a status before dating where both persons are flirting but also interested with each other).
It is scheduled to air in the first half of 2021 on JTBC network. Song Kang and Han So Hee are still in talks to play the lead roles for the drama. Director Kim Ka Ram who also helmed "Devilish Charm" and "The Vampire Detective" will be directing the series and will be penned by writer Jung Won.
Yumi's Cells
Yu Mi is an ordinary office worker in her thirties from the perspective of the cells of her head. Lee Dong Geon is the person behind this webtoon story. "Goblin" actress Kim Go Eun will be playing the role of Yu Mi. It has been said that the filming will kick off in the first half of 2021. The writer who wrote "W", "Memories of the Alhambra", "High Kick", and "Queen In Hyun's Man" Song Jae Song will be in charge of the script.
Imitation
Written by Park Kyung Ran, this will tell the stories of idols in the entertainment industry. And will be kicking off in the first half of 2021 on KBS. It will have a star-studded cast namely Jung Ji So, ATEEZ's YunHo, Seong Hwa, Jong Ho, and San, SF9's Chani and Hwi Young, U-KISS's Jun, T-ARA's Ji Yeon, ex-PRISTIN's Lim Na Young, Park Yuri, Ahn Jung Hoon, Min Seo, Boys' Republic's SuWoong, g.o.d's Danny Ahn and Shim Eun Jin.
