'SNL Korea' to Return on the Small Screen After Three Years + Shin Dong Yup to Host the Upcoming Show

One of the most watched variety shows, SNL Korea will be making its comeback after three years!

After years of being out in the spotlight, comedy and variety show "SNL Korea" is finally preparing for a big comeback. Production company A Story exclusively signed a contract to produce "SNL Korea" with the NBCUniversal Formats, which owns the rights of the said show. 

The Korean version of NBC's long-running comedy show Saturday Night Live, aired its last episode in 2018 ending with nine seasons. It has been confirmed that the new season will be directed by producer Ahn Sang Hwi. Director Ahn, was also the person behind the successful direction of the entire season of "SNL Korea." Joining him in the project are producers Kwon Sung Wook and Yoo Sung Mo. 

Shin Dong Yup Will Remain as the Host of "SNL Korea"

And of course, the show will never be complete without the magic of the host. Returning also in the show is none other than, actor and comedian Shin Dong Yup. The 50-year-old artist was also the one hosted all 9 seasons of "SNL Korea." Now that he will be back again as the main MC, Shin Dong Yup is expected to make another fun and humorous show welcoming new and familiar personalities in the industry.

Meanwhile, Korean citizens were not just the one celebrating for the show comeback. In fact, the Senior Vice President of NBCUniversal Formats, Ana Langenberg expressed her excitement for the return of the sain program. According to her, "I am happy to see 'SNL Korea' again. This legendary show has received lots of support from avid viewers for many years."

Ms. Langenberg also wished for a good and strong partnership with the Korean production company A Story, "We hope that our new partner A Story and the original production staff will be bringing fresh content to SNL Korea. I can no longer wait to see how the audience and the new generation will embrace and react to the new 'SNL Korea.'"

The CEO of A Story, Lee Sang Baek can't also hide his excitement for the forthcoming project. According to him, "As much as NBCUniversal, we all the staff of A Story are also happy to be launching the newest season of 'SNL Korea.' Fresh characters and never ending laughter are all expected to be present in every episode of the show."

Meanwhile, "SNL Korea" is expected to kick off in the second half of 2021.
