Viu, one of the largest streaming sites to watch Korean dramas and movies, is dropping its third Korean Original Series soon called "Hong Cheon Gi." Given the actors who are top-billing the show, the series is certainly worth watching out for. Below are all the facts we know so far about the upcoming drama.

"Hong Cheon Gi" in Viu: Cast and Release Date

"Hong Cheon Gi" is big. It is no ordinary series that is being launched just for the sake of it. Suffice to say, Viu has certainly prepared this third original series quite well, which is quite evident in who made it to the main cast.

The show is characterized as a period romantic fantasy series, therefore roles included prince and princesses. The show stars Kim Yoo Jung, most notable for her lead role in the 2016 hit drama, "Love in the Moonlight." Before this breakthrough role, Kim Yoo Jung showcased her acting chops in many different shows where she played the younger versions of the main protagonists.

The male lead for this upcoming drama is Ahn Hyo Seop, who also has a very solid portfolio of shows he did, such as "Still 17," "Abyss," and "Dr. Romantic 2." The role of a prince goes to Gong Myung, who earned praises for his roles in "The Bride of Habaek," "Feel Good to Die," and "Be Melodramatic," among others.

The show will reportedly be launched in the third quarter of 2021.

"Hong Cheon Gi" Plot and Storyline

The series is based on a novel of the same title.

The plot and storyline of the series revolve around a woman artist with extraordinary aesthetic insight as well as painting talent.

She would eventually become the first female painter of the Dohwaseo (Korean Royal Academy of Painting).

While at the palace, she becomes entangled in a love triangle, catching the eyes of a prince and a regular guy.

These two men will vie for her love, one who is massively skilled at astronomy. The other on the other hand is Grand Prince Anpyeong who can best be described as an art enthusiast.

Third Korean Original Series for Viu

Even though Viu has become really successful because it carried on its platform a horde of Korean dramas that it merely acquired from various networks, the company is expanding by releasing original content. This is its third one, following two very successful ones.

The first one is titled "River Where the Moon Rises," which has garnered its own fans. The second one is yet to drop in May, entitled, "Doom at Your Service."

According to the chief content officer of Viu, this strategy is a win-win, because it enables the video streaming app to offer the widest selection of fresh Korean content coupled with original content. Fans would naturally like the sheer number of choices of Kdramas to watch.

Viu now operates in 16 markets and shares that it now has 45 million monthly active users.
