"Squid Game 2" is officially getting a green light after Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos confirmed that the blockbuster Kdrama is returning for another sequel. 

After a series of discussions and never-ending rumors regarding the much-awaited season 2, the streaming giant finally announced that the nine-part episode series is set for its second installment.

During Netflix's fourth-quarter earnings call, the company's co-CEO and Chief Content Officer revealed that there would "absolutely" be a sequel for the mega-hit Kdrama. 

In addition, he teases the audience by saying, "The Squid Game universe has just begun."

Moreover, he also recognized the skyrocketing content from South Korea and praised the streaming giant's local team for the massive success of "Squid Game."

"They didn't try to make the show different so that it would travel, but tried to find all the things about Korean cinema and Korean drama and build them up in a way and new levels of production values," he said. 

Ted Sarandos also noticed that the public always had "curiosity" about the Korean wave, adding that "K Drama market has always had pockets of success all over the place, but the ease of delivery that we've offered has pushed that into the mainstream."

'Squid Game' to Return with Two Sequels Says, Director Hwang Dong Hyuk

Apart from the Netflix boss, "Squid Game" director Hwang Dong Hyuk previously hinted about the highly anticipated sequel. 

During his interview with KBS, the filmmaker revealed that he is in talks with the streaming giant, not just with the second sequel but also the third; however, he added that he and the company would officially announce any time soon.

Hwang Dong Hyuk has been open regarding the updates in the psychological thriller series.

During its Q & A special in November, he expressed his gratitude to viewers who fell in love with "Squid Game" but confessed that he felt "a lot of pressure" producing a new sequel. 

At the time, he shared that he "had a basic storyline for season two," but it was all in his head and "currently in the brainstorming stage."

Finally, the viewers are certain that the much-awaited "Squid Game 2" will return anytime soon.

After the nine-part series was released on September 17, the Kdrama instantly became a global breakout success after millions of viewers around the world got hooked on "Squid Game."

Due to this, Netflix named the Kdrama as their "biggest show ever," ranking 11 million viewers and making it the most-streamed Netflix series to date. 

Apart from it, the Hwang Do Hyuk directed series scored several nominations and awards, including its first international trophy at the Gotham Independent Film Award for Breakthrough Series. 

In addition, the Kdrama also took home the People's Choice Award for Favorite Bingeworthy Show and Best Supporting Actor for Oh Young Soo. 

"Squid Game" latest achievement is scoring four nods for the 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards. This includes an Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor for Jung Ho Yeon, an Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor for Lee Jung Jae, and an Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Series.
