‘The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure’ Review: Kang Ha Neul, Han Hyo Joo, More Set Sail to Search for the Lost Treasure

'The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure' Highlights: Kang Ha Neul and Han Hyo Joo Clash For Power
In search for the lost treasure of the Goryeo royal family, a group of easy-go-lucky bandits led by Wu Mu Chi (Kang Ha Neul) and tactical pirates guided by captain Hae Rang (Han Hyo Joo) set sail in the sea.
As both groups possess monster-like fighting skills and honed weapons, they clash for the position of the captain and mastermind of the treasure hunt.
Since they work together, the two find having two leaders quite confusing.
With no thoughts of working together with a pirate, bandits Wu Mu Chi refuses to join the pirate crew and runs away with the treasure map-inscribed elephant tusk.
Hae Rang then hunts down Wu Mu Chi who's in hiding, determined to crush him with her own hands.
Meanwhile, they find Mak Yi (Lee Kwang Soo) posing as Wu Mu Chi and Hae Geum (Chae Soo Bin) selling a fake elephant tusk to noble Korean families for a huge amount of price.
Bandits, Thieves, Pirates Set Sail To Find Lost Treasure
Following the map chiseled on the tusk, they set sail towards the deep sea where dangerous bodies of water engulf humans alive.

Wu Mu Chi, Hae Rang, Han Goong (EXO Sehun), along with their crew and captives Mak Yi and Hae Geum, dive head on underwater to find the lost treasure.

To their surprise, only bits of silver were hidden in the cave. There were no bars of gold or other significant stones that welcomed them.
Instead, the gang of Bu Heung Soo (Kwon Sang Woo), a treasure-seeking Goryeo soldier who rebelled, attacked them mercilessly.
Wu Mu Chi, Hae Rang and The Lightning Island
After the day's letdown, Mak Yi cheers his crew up with his news. In the cave, he saw a map that had the location of the real royal treasure.
With this, he's given the chance to become the pirate crew's acting pirate. They brace themselves and hoist the mast towards Lightning Island where a thousand of frightening lightning strikes day by day.

Fortunately, they survive the danger with their limbs still intact. The crew decide to disperse and comb the island for the gold.
Things didn't get better for the crew as they couldn't locate the gold in the vast deserted island.
Meanwhile, Wu Mu Chi hikes up to the mountain where the lightning strikes on the same pavement every second.
Up in the mountains, the spears of the founders of Goryeo stand strong, welcoming the harsh strikes of lightning. Wu Mu Chi also sees Bu Heung Soo and his men on top, ready to dig deep and retrieve the treasure.
However, the treasure chest was filled with useless rocks and a wood carving of a goblin's face. Wu Mu Chi and Bu Heung Soo engage in a man-to-man brawl, tossing the wood carving out the ocean.
The Last Royal Treasure
While Wu Mu Chi fights for his life, Hae Rang and her crew take down Bu Heung Soo's crew in the sea. After wrapping it up with no sweat, the pirates also steal their cannon-loaded ship.
Han Hyo Joo | The Pirates: Goblin Flag
Mak Yi, who fell off a cliff, sees the goblin wood carving and realizes that it looks like an underwater cave. Despite being alone, he decides to explore it and to his amazement, a gold-loaded ship rests before him.
Hae Rang, together with Mak Yi and the gold, steers away from the huge ocean wave. Wu Mu Chi defeats Bu Heung Soo. The crew sails South with the last royal treasure.
Finally, Hae Rang is back to being the crew's captain. She offers the position to Wu Mu Chi who has proven himself, but refuses.
Instead, he promises the captain to be by her side forever.
