‘The Roundup’ Makes History in Korean Box Office
Ma Dong Seok and Son Seok Koo's "The Roundup" continue to achieve milestones as the movie reigns at the box office.
The action film, also known as "The Outlaws 2," recently surpassed the 10 million mark in less than a month after it premiered in theaters.
'The Roundup' Set New Record in History of Korean Box Office
Over the weekend, distributor ABO Entertainment announced on its Instagram that "The Roundup" has surpassed 10 million audiences. Lead stars Ma Dong Seok, and Choi Gwi Ha, alongside other cast members, expressed gratitude to viewers with a simple message.
"Thank you for sharing this miraculous moment of 10 million hearts," the caption reads, featuring the cast holding a cake celebrating their new achievement.
With this, the action movie is hailed as the highest-grossing movie in May in the history of the Korean box office.
According to an Osen, the Korean Film Council recorded 331,562 moviegoers who watched on June 12, bringing it to a total of 10,503,886 audiences since it premiered on May 18.
For four consecutive weekends, "the Roundup" dominated the box office by cementing its place in the top spot.
With this, not only did "The Outlaws" sequel hit the 10 million mark but also achieved the record for the longest weekend at the box office among movies released in 2022.

In addition, it outshined the Academy Award-winning film "Parasite" as the highest-grossing movie in May.
To top it, Ma Song Deok's movie also beat Hollywood movies such as the 2014 Disney film "Frozen" and "Interstellar," which were also released before the pandemic.
'The Roundup' Premieres Globally
Before "The Roundup" continued to rake achievements at the box office, the highly anticipated sequel was sold in various countries.
According to Korea Times, ABO Entertainment shared that the action movie has been sold to 132 countries.
It includes Asian countries like China, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, and Indonesia, as well as European countries like France and Germany.
Adding to the list are North America and South America, including Brazil.
With this K-movie Entertainment, the company responsible for the film's international sales, mentioned in a statement that "from an early stage of film sales, foreign buyers have shown interest in 'The Roundup' because it marks Ma's first Korean film since his appearance in Marvel Studios 'Eternals.'"
Interestingly, aside from being the main character, Ma Dong Seok, also known as his English name Don Lee, is also among the movie producers.
'The Roundup' Cast and Synopsis
The sequel follows the story of fearless detective Ma Suk Do (Ma Dong Seok), who returned after four years of successfully wiping out the operation in Garibong-dong.
Now, he is set to travel to Vietnam alongside his strong team to carry out a mission and find the villain Gang Hae Sang (Son Seok Koo.)
