The third season of "Yumi's Cells" has gained strong popularity, topping TVING's paid subscriber contribution rankings during its first week from April 13 to 19.

The series follows Yumi, played by Kim Go Eun, a romance novelist whose life changes after meeting her producer Shin Soon Rok, portrayed by Kim Jae Won. This season focuses on her evolving emotions and complex relationships, while continuing the show's unique storytelling style that visualizes her inner thoughts through animated "cell village" characters.
New stills released ahead of episodes 3 and 4 introduced Joo Ho, played by Choi Daniel, a star author who develops feelings for Yumi. His presence creates tension between Yumi and Soon Rok, drawing attention to the shifting dynamics among the three characters during a bookstore outing in Busan.
In early episodes, Yumi's routine life is disrupted by her working relationship with Soon Rok, which begins with conflict but gradually develops into a deeper connection. The production team commented.

"With Soon Rok's arrival, Yumi's monotonous life comes to an end. While love is still difficult, please look forward to Yumi, who gives her all sincerely, Soon Rok, who changes because of her, and the evolving dynamic among the three characters", as per AllKpop.
The chemistry between Kim Go Eun and Kim Jae Won has been a key highlight. In an interview cited by The Chosun Daily, Kim Jae Won shared, "At first, it felt like being a boyfriend brought home by a beloved daughter from a big, close-knit family—having to greet everyone. It felt like all eyes were on me. It was an honor to join the final chapter of a series that has received so much love. Soon Rok is remembered as a 'unicorn-like younger man,' so there was pressure, but it was definitely a good kind of pressure."
Kim Go Eun also reflected on working with him, "It was my first time working as a partner with someone much younger... we both wanted Jae Won to feel comfortable on set."
Despite having a shorter eight-episode format compared to previous seasons, the story is expected to move at a faster pace as Yumi's feelings deepen and new conflicts emerge with Joo Ho's arrival. Episodes 3 and 4 premiered on April 20 via TVING, with additional broadcasts on tvN.
Season 3 continues to explore a "love-hate" relationship between Yumi and Soon Rok, with viewers eager to see how their bond develops alongside new emotional challenges.
