'Once Upon a Small Town' Episode 1: Han Ji Yul Gets A Shock of His Life

The feel-good K-drama focuses on the life of Han Ji Yul (Choo Young Woo) as he adapts to his new environment. He works as a veterinarian in a clinic in Seoul. However, he gets shocked to receive a message from his grandfather saying that there is an emergency and that "there's no time left."
Han Ji Yul traveled from Seoul to Heidong village just to check on his grandfather who is running a veterinary clinic in the town.
He was surprised to see that no one was in their home and was interrogated by the local female police officer Ahn Ja Young (Red Velvet Joy).

To make things worse, he was knocked out by his male colleague who mistook Han Ji Yul for a suspect. After checking his ID, they figured out that he was the grandson of the town's vet doc.
Han Ji Yul Struggles to Fit In His New Place
After slightly recovering from the incident, he was told that there was no accident and his grandfather was on a cruise with his grandmother.
Due to this, he was advised to oversee the clinic and as for his work in Seoul, it has been taken care of.
However, things went by so fast that he could easily grasp the situation. Upon entering the house, he saw a letter from his grandfather and explained why they had to go on a cruise - and that is to fulfill his wife's wish to travel the world on a ship.
Here, Han Ji Yul finally got what his grandfather was eager to have their vacation and as for him, he had no choice but to oversee the clinic, which includes being on call and having no days off.
Officer Ahn Ja Young Introduces Heidong Village to Han Ji Yul

In "Once Upon a Small Town" episode 1, Officer Ahn toured Han Ji Yul to the village for him to get familiarized with the town's lifestyle.
They met a chicken breeder who tied a dog for killing some of his animals. However, Han Ji Yul warned him that it is a form of animal cruelty and must be treated before giving the dog to a shelter.
