Lee Kyu Hyung talks about his experience landing the role of North Korean soldier Captain Ri Jung Hyuk in the "Crash Landing on You" musical. 

The play was based on the 2019 smash hit K-drama of the same name starring real-life couple Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin. 

As the musical successfully had its opening performance on September 16 in Seoul, Lee Kyu Hyung opens up about the challenges of playing Hyun Bin's character.

During an interview with media outlets, the versatile star admits that joining the cast of the "Crash Landing on You" musical is quite "challenging" since it is different from his usual roles. 

"I like to try new works," he said, adding that he "takes on different challenges to enjoy various hobbies." 

Moreover, he said that playing the North Korean soldier was different from his previous characters since his characters mostly get killed or sent to prison. 

"It's stressful, but it's rewarding when things go well," the actor mentioned, referring to his Captain Ri character in the musical "Crash Landing on You."

While K-drama fans fell in love with Hyun Bin's character, Lee Kyu Hyung said he wanted to "make a three-dimensional character" by showing Captain Ri's "serious yet erratic charm."

As for the flow of the story, Le Kyu Hyung shared that the musical conveys different emotions since the duration only takes 2 hours and 50 minutes including the intermission while the K-drama has 16 episodes with a run time of 90 minutes per episode.

The award-winning star is a veteran in the world of musical in Korea and has appeared n famous plays including "Hedwig" and as for his latest musical he is joined by Lee Jang Woo and Min Woo Hyuk, playing the same role of Captain Ri while Im Hye Young, Kim Ryeo Won, and Na Ha Na, took the role of South Korean heiress Yoon Se Ri. 

Lee Kyu Hyung Receives Support from RAIN and Kim Tae Hee

In a separate report, Lee Kyu Hyung revealed that some of his previous co-stars and celebrity friends came to watch his latest musical. 

It includes Hallyu queen Kim Tae Hee and her husband RAIN. The actor said that he went out with the couple after the musical and talked about the play. 

"Tae-hee said that it was more interesting than the original drama," Lee Kyu Hyung mentioned. 

To recall, Kim Tae Hee and Lee Kyu Hyung both starred in the hit K-drama "Hi Bye Mama," and have remained friends since then. 

On the other hand, the actor said that fellow celebrities like Oh Man Seok, Ko Kyu Pil, and "Move to Heaven" star Tang Jun Sang, expressed that they will soon watch the musical.
