So Ji Sub, who boasts an impressive filmography, expressed his exhaustion of playing the same archetype of acting roles. In his more than two decades in the industry, the actor wants something fresh and new.

Prior to the premiere of his forthcoming thriller film "Confession," the veteran star reveals why he was drawn to the work.

So Ji Sub Seeks New Challenge Through 'Confession'

With a long list of dramas under his belt, So Ji Sub couldn't wait but to take on a new challenge that will strengthen his career.

Because he has been in the industry for more than 20 years, the actor was beginning to get tired of reading the same scripts. He doesn't want to become an actor who's stuck in one kind of genre, taking on the same characters in different works.

Recently, the actor appeared in popular drama medical legal drama "Doctor Lawyer. His notable works also includes "Oh My Venus," "Master's Sun" and more.

"Since I made my acting debut, all my roles have shared the same trait of being the good guys," So Ji Sub. "It's been so long since I played a polarizing character."

So Ji Sub revealed that when he received the script for his upcoming mystery film "Confession," his interest in accepting works was at the lowest.

Thankfully, "Confession" caught his eyes with its intriguing narrative. According to the actor, the film is a novel project for himself as it's his first ever thriller crime project.

A remake of the 2017 Spanish movie "The Invisible Guest," So Ji Sub transforms into CEO Yo Min Ho, a man whose perfect life turns upside down when he becomes a suspect for the murder of Kim Se Hee, played by After School Nana.

So Ji Sub showed his immense affection for his character as he didn't start out as the villain. The new acting role of the actor is quite polarizing as he's not certainly a great nor a bad guy.

But because of his wrong choices, one thing led to another, which made him the villain of the story. With that said, So Ji Sub couldn't help but be drawn to the work.

He believes that "Confession" will be a great hit, just like many of his works, especially that it's his first ever mystery crime project in a while.

So Ji Sub Reveals Preparation For 'Confession'

Since the film unfolds through the conversations between So Ji Sub's character and his lawyer, played by Kim Yun Jin, who is willing to do everything to win the case, they had to rehearse thoroughly in a way that they haven't done before.

"It took us long enough to read the entire script," So Ji Sub stated. "As we go through, the cast and I added lines and even improvised to create better scenes together."

When asked whether he feels pressured in doing a remake, the actor simply says no as he believes that he will be able to create a great project with the help of the cast and production unit.
