'One Dollar Lawyer' Episode 8: A Glimpse Into Cheon Ji Hoon's Painful Past
"One Dollar Lawyer" episode 8 takes viewers back to the painful past where Cheon Ji Hoon (Namgoong Min) lost his father to corruption and greed.
His father took the fall for the illegal slush funds issue. Because of this, Cheon Ji Hoon decides to become a righteous lawyer.
Through his ups and downs as a prosecutor, Lee Joo Young (Lee Chung Ah), a co-worker, stayed by his side.
Unfortunately, she is Cheon Ji Hoon's second biggest heartbreak. Lee Joo Young chooses her career over him, to which he understands and accepts.
Meanwhile, Lee Joo Young meets her first client as a prosecutor. When she excitedly tells Cheon Ji Hoon about this, someone breaks into her office to steal her files.
Lee Joo Young experiences a firsthand encounter with the attacker, which stills her in her place. Thankfully, Cheon Ji Hoon arrived at the scene, but unfortunately, she couldn't make it.

After rushing her to the hospital, Cheon Ji Hoon walks out with the wedding ring he had prepared in hopes to woo Lee Joo Young.
This was the reason why he decided to become a lawyer who adamantly seeks truth and justice while only asking for a dollar as an attorney's fee.
Episode 8 ends with Cheon Ji Hoon putting his sunglasses on, boasting his unrivaled skills and perseverance to hunt down his ex-lover's killer.
'One Dollar Lawyer' Episode 9: Baek Ma Ri Wants To Know Cheon Ji Hoon
In episode 9, Baek Ma Ri (Kim Ji Eun) becomes more aware about Cheon Ji Hoon's painful past. She wonders whether Lee Joo Young's murderer was caught.
Baek Ma Ri gets dead drunk in the latest episode, even blabbering nonsense in her sleep, much to Cheon Ji Hoon's disappointment.
The following day, Baek Ma Ri tries to be extra nice to him, especially now that she knows the fellow lawyer's battle scars.
Feeling queasy, Cheon Ji Hoon confronts the former about her "naive and innocent" facade and asks her to stop buttering him up as his junior.
In episode 9, the Baek Law Firm attorneys take on a new case which involves the scam and fraud taking place at a junk shop where old cars are being sold with legal papers.
They strategize and plan to buy used cars with their marked money, eager to put an end to the bad guys' illegal business.

After the transaction, the illegal car sellers are stopped from escaping. Thanks to Cheon Ji Hoon, who shows off his drifting skills, everyone was caught.
At the end of the episode, the lawyers go out for a celebratory dinner, not knowing the danger that happens somewhere near them. The next day, Cheon Ji Hoon welcomes an uninvited visitor.
