Great Crown Princes of Historical Dramas

Among talented actors who starred in historical dramas, these 3 versatile stars are hailed the "Great Crown Princes" of their generation.

In an article, it was said that Japanese viewers are fond of watching a variety of K-series. But among the other genres, historical or sageuk is one of the most challenging to do for the actors. Apart from the big production, they need to wear different costumes under the sun or brave the cold for some satisfying fight scenes. Not to mention that they rehearse multiple times to get the right emotions while delivering their lines.

In Korean period dramas, the crown prince is the next official successor of the king, and he has a heavy responsibility in ruling the whole nation during the Joseon Dynasty.

But no matter how demanding the role is, these Korean heartthrobs Lee Junho, Doh Kyungsoo, and Park Bo Gum changed the game and were hailed as the "Great Crown Princes of Historical Dramas" for raising the standard in portraying their characters.

Lee Junho in 'The Red Sleeve'

Yi San (Lee Junho) is the 22nd king, Jeongjo, who is famous as a great ruler of the latter half of the Joseon Dynasty. He has been portrayed in various series and movies. But the recent drama "The Red Sleeve" received as "the highest level historical drama in history in which Lee San, a genius crown prince, was portrayed excellently."

Lee Young is the eldest son of the 23rd King Sunjo, historically known as Crown Prince Hyomyung. He is talented and would definitely be considered a wise man if he became a king, but unfortunately died at the age of 21.

Viewers have seen his story in the series "Love in the Moonlight." Park Bo Gum played the character of "Tsundere Prince," raising the fame of Crown Prince Komyung in Korea. He also did a great job of giving life to his character, the royal hanbok also suited him.

Doh Kyungsoo

This drama is not based on historical facts, and Lee Yul is said to be a fictional character. He was portrayed by Doh Kyungsoo, who appeared as a disgruntled prince at the start of the drama.

But after losing his memory after being assassinated, he turned into a farmer and experienced ordinary life. He then regained his memory, and returned to the royal palace and confronted the corrupt officials.

EXO's D.O. played two roles in a variety of ways, but the dignified appearance he showed as a crown prince was overwhelming.
