While some Korean celebrities made their acting debut in K-drama after transitioning as K-pop stars or as theater actors, these stars began their careers on the big screen. 

There's no denying that some top stars solidified their name in the industry by joining a small screen project; however, there are others who managed to captivate viewers with their acting prowess while starring in a film. 

From Son Ye Jin to Kim Go Eun and Park Seo Joon, more, here are five Korean celebrities who started their acting journey in cinema. 

Son Ye Jin

Before being considered as one of the K-drama goddesses, Son Ye Jin kick-started her career by landing a supporting role in the 2001 mystery romance movie "Secret Tears."

A year later, she joined the 2002 film "Chihwaseon" where she played the role of So Un. The historical film stars veteran actors Cho Min Shik, Ahn Sung Ki, Kim Yeo Jin, and Yoo Ho Jung. 

From then on, she continue to appear in various films and eventually had her first K-drama through the rom-com "Delicious Proposal" opposite Jung Joon, So Ji Sub, and So Yoo Jin

Kim Go Eun

Prior to her hit K-dramas "Goblin," "The King: Eternal Monarch" and "Little Women," Kim Go Eun made her acting debut in the movie "A Muse" in 2012. 

Interestingly, she scored her first-ever acting recognition and won Grand Bell Award for Best New Actress

It was only in 2016 that she appeared on the small screen for a lead role in "Cheese in the Trap."

Park Seo Joon

Now considered as one of the hottest South Korean heartthrobs and a global superstar thanks to his upcoming movie "The Marvels," Park Seo Joon had his first acting gig in the 2011 film "Perfect Game."

A year later, he joined the iconic "Dream High 2" with Kang So Ra, Jung Jin Woon, and more, and the rest is history for Park Seo Joon.

Kim Da Mi

The 27-year-old actress first had her on-screen appearance in the "2017 Project With The Same Name."

In the same year, she had her movie appearance in "Romans 8:37" where she played a supporting character. 

Kim Da Mi continues to show her amazing skills through films like "marionette," and "The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion."

It was only in 2020 that she had her K-drama debut through the hit series "Itaewon Class."

Kim Tae Ri

Before the award-winning K-drama "Mr. Sunshine" and the smash hit series "Twenty-Five Twenty-One," Kim Tae Ri is making a name for herself in movies. 

Her big screen debut was the 2015 drama movie "Moon Young" where she played the titular role. 

A year later, she won an award for her performance in "The Handmaiden" with Kim Min Hee and Ha Jung Woo. 

In the same year, Kim Tae Ri had a cameo appearance in the series "Entourage."
