It was not so long ago when Justin Bieber told Blackberry to give him $200,000 and 20 devices and he will be the company’s ambassador. But the offer came at a time when the Blackberry executive thought he was just “ a fad,” and his popularity would not last.

It turned out, the “One Time” singer is not just a fad as he has continued to make a name for himself since he invaded the U.S. market in 2008. The Canadian teen sensation has continued to top the list of many music accolades including the highest earning music artist under 21 such as the BillBoard’s list.

Bieber has also been on top of the list among the highest earning celebrity by Forbes and his hit singles has rarely below top five of any music charts worldwide.

Justin may have yet to receive any major award from top award giving bodies but the singer has continued to earn supporters through the years.

A former Blackberry executive told Bloomberg that the company may not have seen Bieber to reach such high-profile, international superstardom that the company turned down the pop star to be its Ambassador.

Give me $200,000 and 20 devices, and I’m your brand ambassador,” Vincent Washington, an executive from Blackberry was quoted as telling Bloomberg, according to The Huffington Post Canada, recalling the offer made by Bieber to Blackberry, then popularly known as RIM company.

“We pitched that to marketing: Here’s a Canadian kid, he grew up here, all the teeny-boppers will love that,” the senior business development manager said, noted Huffington Post Canada.

“They basically threw us out of the room. They said, ‘This kid is a fad. He’s not going to last.’ I said at the meeting: ‘This kid might outlive RIM.’ Everyone laughed,” Washington added, said Huffington Post Canada.

While Bieber continues to skyrocket to popularity, Blackberry has steadily decreases its earnings.

The Huffington Post Canada noted that Blackberry lost an estimated $1 billion in the last quarter of the year. Rumors have it that a buy-out is being instigated by Prem Watsa’s Fairfax Financial, only to reach a new low when the latter failed to raise the amount of money agreed in the buyout.
