According to a report, "Unlocked" ranked third on Netflix's Top 10 Global chart following its premiere on February 17. It also topped Taiwanese and Vietnamese charts and secured a spot on the top ten lists of 34 countries. It also outshined some English-language shows, proving the influence of Korean content overseas.
'Unlocked' Garners Popularity Amid Criticism
Despite the criticism it received about the celebrity's acting, "Unlocked" is gaining positive reviews from viewers and various media outlets.
In particular, Movie Nation stated that the film features an ominous tale that makes you think about putting your smartphone out of sight.
Another media outlet commented, " Even though the female character is an underwritten protagonist, actress Chun Won Hee was able to do a good performance that foregoes the usual cliches of female stalker-victims."
Meanwhile, Munhwa News said, "'Unlocked's' unique directing using smartphones, which are familiar to the audience made the film more immersive and relatable to them."
Further, with its increasing popularity abroad, Netflix dropped new movie stills as an appreciation to the viewers who keep supporting the film.
Im Siwan Praised For His Villain Role
"Unlocked" lead star Im Siwan once again impressed many with his villain role in the film.
Previously, he also portrayed the role of an antagonist in the disaster movie "Emergency Declaration," in which he was praised for his brilliant performance.
The idol-actor is expected to make his immediate comeback with another film "1947 Boston," which is expected to hit cinemas this year.
