Kim Joo Ryoung spoke about the incredible aftermath of joining the hit Netflix series "Squid Game" and how it contributed to her popularity years after it was released. 

The 9-part episode K-drama was released in 2021 and immediately became a huge hit worldwide. 

Besides ranking first in Netflix's top 10 TV shows worldwide, "Squid Game" scored countless recognitions both locally and internationally. 

From winning Baeksang Arts Awards 2022 to winning prestigious Golden Globes, Emmy Awards, and more, the streaming giant named the Korean series as Netflix's biggest show yet. 

Kim Joo Ryoung Talks About Her Popularity Outside Korea Thanks to 'Squid Game'

Two years after the show premiered, Kim Joo Ryoung is still reaping the success of "Squid Game."

In a recent interview, as obtained by a news portal, the actress expressed how "honored" and "grateful" she is after landing back-to-back projects, following the Netflix show. 

Kim Joo Ryoung also shared the show's popularity and would constantly get messages regarding her "Squid Game."

"Many people on SNS commented that they enjoyed the drama. Acquaintances of my husband in the U.S. also showed interest in my work," she added. 

Besides the U.S, the actress felt her popularity in the Philippines while shooting for her drama 

Kim Joo Ryoung also talked about how she was warmly welcomed when filming "Big Bet" season 2.

She said that people would recognize her even if she is wearing a mask. 

"They brought me some bread while watching me act on the set," she said, referring to her recent shoot, adding "It was touching to see how excited they were to meet someone they liked."

To recall, the versatile star took the role of player No. 212, Han Mi Nyeo, one of the debt-ridden participants who hope to win the grand prize. 

She receives much attention from the viewers after her convincing portrayal of the show's villain. 

From 'Big Bet' Season 2 to Upcoming K-drama 'Queen of Tears'

Kim Joo Ryoung reprised her role in the show's second season as she plays, Jin Young Hee, a local BBQ restaurant owner in Manila who gets involved in a murder case. 

She joined veteran actor Choi Min Shik, Son Seok Koo, Lee Dong Hwi and was reunited with "Squid Game" co-star Heo Sung Tae. 

After successfully wrapping up the show, viewers will surely see Kim Joo Ryoung in another interesting K-drama.

She will be joining as one of the supporting actors in the much-awaited team-up between Kim Ji Won and Kim Soo Hyun for the romance drama "​​Queen of Tears."

Besides the two lead stars, the cast also includes "The Glory" star Park Sung Hoon and Kwak Dong Yeon from "Big Mouth."
