Park Seo Joon Recalls Failing At Auditions Causing Him to ‘Stop for Over a Year’

Park Seo Joon gets honest as he speaks about his humble beginnings before becoming one of Hallyu's sought-after stars.

The 34-year-old actor stars in back-to-back projects this 2023. On top of that, he is set to make his Hollywood debut after landing a role in the MCU's "The Marvels" with Brie Larson.

In an interview with a local media outlet, Park Seo Joon talks about how the global audience sees K-contents and his similarity with Yoon Hong Dae, his character in "Dream."

Park Seo Joon's Coping Mechanisms to Overcome Inferiority

When asked about his "Dream" character, Yoon Hong Dae, who is described as someone who experiences feeling inferior towards others, the actor revealed that he also had a moment in his life when he felt inadequate and insecure.

For the 34-year-old star explained that his inferiority complex helps him grow. He sees that the benefit is that it pushed him to go further and make progress in life.

Park Seo Joon also talked about the time when he experienced a slump in his career and the adjustments he made to get over it.

"If I keep failing at auditions, I have to stop for about a year, but I also thought that this path might not be the way for me to go," he said.

Moreover, the South Korean star got honest and admitted that he once compared himself to the achievements of his fellow stars.

"There was also an inferiority complex that came from watching people my age. They can, but why can't I, 'What's wrong with me,'" he recalled.

As for overcoming his fear, the "Itaewon Class" star pointed out that it's important to acknowledge oneself and be proud if one achieves something.

"I tend to push myself to the cliff because I think the sense of accomplishment comes when I'm done," he explained.

Park Seo Joon began his career in 2011 after landing a supporting role in the movie "The Perfect Game."

Meanwhile, he had his first K-drama in 2012 after joining "Dream High Season 2." However, his appearance in the 2017 K-drama "Fight for My Way" where Park seo Joon found his success.

After concluding the series with high viewership, he then landed another hit K-drama "What's Wrong with Secretary Kim?" with Park Min Young.

From then on, he continued to star in hit series and movies like "Itaewon Class," "Divine Fury," and more.

For his movie comeback, Park Seo Joon plays the once famous football player Yoon Hong Dae, who was offered to be the head coach of an amateur team in order to redeem his football career.

There, he meets rookie players who will join the International Homeless World Cup.

On the other hand, producing director Lee So Min, played by IU, finds Hong Dae's team interesting and decides to make a documentary of their progress.

"Dream" officially hit the big screen on April 26 and was helmed by Lee Byung Hun of "Extreme Job" and "Be Melodramatic."
