Ma Dong Seok discusses his expectations for the upcoming movie "The Roundup: No Way Out" and looks back on the success of the 2022 sequel "The Roundup."

In an interview with local news outlet Wikitree, the South Korean top star, who is also known as Don Lee by global viewers, also spoke about his current relationship. 

Ma Dong Seok Recalled the Record-Breaking Success of 'The Roundup'

In 2022, Ma Dong Seok's movie "The Roundup" garnered an overwhelming response from the viewers after surpassing 12 million moviegoers since its premiere and becoming the 14th Korean film in history to score that huge number of viewers. 

Looking back, the 52-year-old top star, who is also the producer of the action-packed movie, confessed that he didn't "expect" such a huge achievement. 

"We didn't expect it at all," he said, adding, "It was a pandemic, so luckily it happened, and in fact, the production team was also surprised."

"The Roundup" is the sequel to the 2017 movie "The Outlaws," with Yoon Kye Sang as the villain. 

Interestingly, his team-up with the new antagonist, Son Seok Koo, piqued the interest of viewers. 

As for the third sequel, "The Roundup: No Way Out," Ma Dong Seok reprised his role as the legendary detective Ma Suk Do, who is assigned to clean up drug crimes in Incheon.

For his new mission, he is set to face the new villain, Joo Sung Cheol, played by Lee Joon Hyuk, who is unrecognizable with his transformation as a gang leader.

Along with fellow lead star Japanese actor Aoki Munetaka as Ricky, "The Roundup: No Way Out," will hit the big screen on May 31. 

In addition, joining for a cameo role is veteran Japanese star Kunimura Jun as the Yakusa boss. 

Ma Dong Seok on His Marriage: 'I'm Happy'

In October 2022, following the release of "The Roundup," Ma Dong Seok surprised the public by annoucing his marriage in the most shocking way. 

After gracing the stage to receive the Film Artist Award at the 12th Beautiful Artist Awards, the actor thanked everyone, including the actress and longtime girlfriend Ye Jung Hwa.

Interestingly, he addressed her as his "wife," which surprised the audience. 

Months after Ma Dong Seok's shocking announcement, he revealed that he included his wife's name in the film credits to show his deep affection for Ye Jung Hwa. 

When asked about his marriage life, Ma Dong Seok said, "I am doing well now. I'm happy," he said, smiling.

To recall, the couple started dating in 2016, and despite the 17-year age gap, they got married in 2021 but only announced it in public a year later.
