Viewers were delighted to see a familiar face at Doldam Hospital as Yoo Yeon Seok returns in "Dr. Romantic 3."
Reprising his role as Kang Dong Joo, he was reunited with the Doldam family, including his mentor, Kim Sa Bu, played by Han Suk Kyu.
Prior to the premiere of the medical K-drama, rumors sparked that Yoo Yeon Seok might possibly make a cameo; however, officials didn't officially confirm the news at the time.
As "Dr. Romantic 3" enters its second half, the SBS drama continues to surprise viewers with its unexpected twists and cast appearances, one of which is the return of Dr. Kang.
'Dr. Romantic 3' Sets New All-Time High As Yoo Yeon Seok Joins the Sequel
The SBS weekend K-drama never fails to deliver a surprising twist to viewers, as episodes 11 and 12 showcased changes at the Trauma Center.
From Dr. Cha Jin Man's (Lee Kyung Young) dark past to Lee Seon Wung's (Lee Hong Nae) shocking revenge, viewers were stunned to witness how Doldam and the Trauma Center were in deep chaos due to the unexpected situations.
Due to this, Dr. Cha stepped down from his position as head of the Trauma Center. However, Kim Sa Bu invited a special person to take over the position.
In the last scene of "Dr. Romantic 3" episode 12, Seo Woo Jin (Ahn Hyo Seop) unexpectedly meets Dr. Kang Dong Joo, who used to be the apprentice of Kim Sa Bu.
In season 1, he worked alongside Yoon Seo Jung (Seo Hyun Jin), but the two left Doldam due to personal reasons.
Dr. Kang studied and trained in the United States but returned to Korea after receiving a request from Kim Sa Bu.
Kim Sa Bu hints that Kang Dong Joo will be the replacement of Dr. Cha Jin Man. However, the trailer previews tension between the new Trauma Center head and Seo Woo Jin.
Interestingly, "Dr. Romantic 3" experienced a major boost in ratings as Yoo Yeon Seok entered the series.

As mentioned by a media outlet, Nielsen Korea, recorded an average nationwide rating of 14.4 percent for the show's 12th episode, marking an all-time high for the season's run.
On top of it, "Dr. Romantic 3" beat "Doctor Cha" as the Most Buzzworthy K-drama, with Ahn Hyo Seop leading the actor rankings.
Will Yoo Yeon Seok Appear in 'Dr. Romantic 3' Until Finale?
With only two weeks left, viewers are hooked on every episode of "Dr. Romantic 3."
While fans were delighted to see Yoo Yeon Seok reunited with the Doldam family, netizens are wondering if it will be just for a cameo role. Interestingly, the 39-year-old actor will join the series until the show's 16th episode.
As mentioned by a news portal, officials reportedly confirmed that Yoo Yeon Seok will join the series as Kang Dong Joo until the finale episode.
Unlike the previous cameo role of Yang Se Jong, who played Dr. Do In Bum, he only appeared in season 2 for one episode, but for Yoo Yeon Seok, viewers will get to see more interaction between Dr. Kang and the Doldam staff.
