Did you know? These K-actresses Kim Go Eun, Kim Tae Ri, and more made their screen debut in explicit projects!

Several Korean stars have made their mark in the industry by starring in projects for adult audiences. Some became A-list stars, thanks to their bold and outstanding performances without losing artistic value.

Female stars manage to break free from the safety of their comfort zones and amassed recognition from the industry and the viewers. However, some of the R-rated scenes also brought these actresses heavy criticism from the masses.

Kim Go Eun - 'Eungyo'

Among the K-drama stars who debuted with an explicit project is Kim Go Eun. During her early twenties, the "Goblin" star transformed into the female lead of "Eungyo" also known as "A Muse."

Kim Go Eun played a high school student and had intimate scenes with actor Park Hae Il. She also had intense love scenes with co-star Kim Moo Yul.

The movie sparked controversies in Korea. Nevertheless, it gave Kim Go Eun the ticket to bag multiple Best New Actress awards in the film industry.

Kim Tae Ri - 'The Handmaiden'

Similarly to Kim Go Eun, Kim Tae Ri, who is considered a "late bloomer," started her career by appearing in the film "The Handmaiden," which is based on the novel "Fingersmith" written by Sarah Waters. The "Twenty Five, Twenty One" actress beat 1,500 candidates for the role of maid Sook Hee.

The movie contains many provocative scenes, depicting a sapphic romance. Though they were challenging, the scenes did not hinder the actress' progress in the acting field. Instead, it helped her build a great acting portfolio and her talent was praised by professional critics.

Song Ji Hyo - 'A Frozen Flower'

In 2008, Song Ji Hyo broke her innocent image built in the hit series "Princess Hours."

However, not many people know she portrayed the role of a queen in the R-rated movie "A Frozen Flower." The movie shocked Koreans with its intense themes of love and hate, as well as different explicit scenes.

Her bed scenes with Jo In Sung, where her body was fully exposed became a hot topic. The film received mixed reactions, and the "Running Man" host faced criticism for her intimate scenes.

Nonetheless, the impact of the movie cannot be denied, and later on, received praise for its well-written story and the actors' performances.

BLACKPINK's Jennie - 'The Idol'

One of the hottest K-idols today, Jennie of BLACKPINK, just made her acting debut in the American series "The Idol." She gained attention for her first screen role.

Unfortunately, many criticized the idol-actress for her bold dance moves and seductive expressions in the show.

People said that Jennie starring in the Hollywood series was a mistake as it could ruin her reputation as a notable figure.

But despite all the backlash, Jennie has already begun her acting journey, and more projects might come along her way soon. The series also gave Jennie the ticket to make her Cannes Film Festival debut last May.
