A rookie actress is rumored to join the "Squid Game" season 2 cast following the backlash for not including female and new actors in the highly-anticipated sequel. As Netflix gears for the much-awaited release, a news portal reported that Kim Si Eun has been selected to join the series.

Kim Si Eun to Play Lead Role in 'Squid Game' Season 2

In an exclusive report cited by Osen, the outlet says that Kim Si Eun is the latest addition to the "Squid Game" season 2 cast and will play a main character.

However, officials have yet to disclose the role that she will play.

Following her arrival in the upcoming season, viewers raised expectations that she would follow in the footsteps of model-actress Jung Ho Yeon, whose global popularity rose because of the Netflix series.

Netflix Clarifies Rumors Regarding Kim Si Eun's Appearance in 'Squid Game' Season 2

Amid the update surrounding the new additional cast in "Squid Game" season 2, Netflix reacts to the news involving Kim Si Eun.

As obtained by a media outlet, an official from the streaming giant told Herald POP that it is "difficult to confirm" at the moment.

Who is Kim Si Eun?

Kim Si Eun has been in the industry since 2017 and started her career by playing bit roles in "Sweet Revenge" and "The Negotiation."

Viewers might notice her in the 2019 K-drama "Special Labor Inspector Jo," as she played the role of AB Planning Assistance Manager Oh Dae Ri and Ye Joon's sister Go Ye Chan in "Run On."

Interestingly, she had her first ever lead role in the movie "Nexty Sohee" with award winning actress Bae Doona.

Due to this, she won the Best New Actress Award in Film at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards.

What to Expect in 'Squid Game' Season 2?

Since the start of the year, Netflix has continued to drop updates regarding "Squid Game" season 2.

Initially, original cast members Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun, and Gong Yoo are confirmed to join the sequel.

Months later, the streaming giant dropped a new teaser featuring Wi Ha Joon, who will reprise his role as Hwang Jun Ho.

In addition, "Squid Game" season 2 will also feature Im Siwan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Sung Hoon, Yang Dog Geun, and Park Gyu Young.

As for their roles, Netflix is tight lipped about their characters, but Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun, Im Siwan, and Park Gyu Young will play the main roles.

Meanwhile, filming will start in July, and the expected release date will be in 2024.
