‘Jirisan’ Cast Update 2023: See What’s Next for Jun Ji Hyun, Ju Ji Hoon

The mystery-thriller K-drama "Jirisan," headlined by two top stars Jun Ji Hyun and Ju Ji Hoon, delivered intrigue that kept viewers on the edge of their seats.

The 2021 16-episode series was directed by Lee Eung Bok of "Goblin," "Mr. Sunshine," and "Descendants of the Sun," along with renowned screenwriter Kim Eun Hee, the genius behind "Signal" and "Kingdom."

"Jirisan" depicts the story of mountain ranger Kang Hyun Jo, an ex-military lieutenant who decided to shift his career and join as one of the employees of Mt. Jirisan. 

However, as he solves the mystery on the mountain, he meets an unexpected tragedy. This is where his senior, Seo Yi Kang, continues Hyun Jo's journey.

Three years after the series ended, let's get to know the "Jirisan" cast and their current or upcoming projects.

Jun Ji Hyun

Taking on the role of top-notch mountain ranger Seo Yi Kang, "Jirisan" is Jun Ji Hyun's K-drama comeback after "Kingdom: Ashin of the North."

At the height of the thriller-mystery series, the Hallyu superstar faced criticisms regarding her endorsement with the outdoor brand NEPA and was accused by viewers of bombarding the series with ads.

On the other hand, three years after the show wrapped up, Jun ji Hyun is in talks to return to the small screen. The South Korean beauty is set to reunite with Kang Dong Won for the new drama "Polaris."

According to a media outlet, their respective agencies shared that the duo are positively considering the offer.

The upcoming K-drama is penned by Jung Seo Kyung of "The Handmaiden," "Mother," and "Decision to Leave," while "Polaris" will be directed by Kim Hee Won of "The Crowned Clown," "Crash Landing on You," and "Vincenzo."

Ju Ji Hoon

While viewers still hope for Ju Ji Hoon's return in "Kingdom" Season 3, the South Korean star headlined back-to-back K-dramas since "Jirisan."

He will have his small screen comeback in 2023 for the much-awaited sci-fi series "Dominant Species" with Han Hyo Joo, Lee Hee Joon, Lee Moo Saeng, and Park Ji Yeon.

Ju Ji Hoon's new drama is scheduled to premiere on Hulu sometime this year.

In addition, he is also selected to star in the web-novel-based K-drama "The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call," as well as the thriller-horror series "Shop of the Lamp" with Kim Seol Hyun.

From upcoming K-dramas, Ju Ji Hoon is also busy with his big screen projects. After his guest appearance in "Hunt," and the crime-drama movie "Gentleman," the actor will have two upcoming films.

First is "Project Silence," which was initially released at the Cannes Film Festival back in 2021 and is set to hit the big screen in the second half of 2023.

Meanwhile, the political drama film "Unofficial Operation" with Ha Jung Woo is scheduled for August 2023.
