The full scope of Wu's crimes was revealed publicly for the first time on July 16 during a legal education program broadcast by state-run China Central Television (CCTV).

Professor Ma Ai from the China University of Political Science and Law explained the charges, confirming Wu's conviction for engaging in sexual acts with girls under the age of 14. Under Chinese law, this is classified as statutory rape, regardless of perceived consent.
"Because the victims were minors, the offense was considered aggravated, warranting the maximum sentence," Professor Ma stated on the program.
Wu, who holds Canadian citizenship, is ineligible for sentence reduction due to the severity of his crimes and current Chinese legal standards.
In addition to the sexual assault charges, Wu was convicted of evading over 300 million yuan (about $41 million USD) in taxes.

His mother, who managed several of his companies, was also found guilty of customs and tax-related offenses. Authorities pursued prosecution after both failed to pay outstanding taxes and penalties.
The investigation into Wu started in July 2021 when influencer Du Meizhu accused him of drugging and sexually assaulting her while she was underage. Her claims sparked national outrage and led to additional testimonies from other victims.

Following this, Chinese authorities discovered that Wu had sexually assaulted three intoxicated women at his home between November and December 2020.
He was found to have organized a group sex event involving minors in July 2018.
Once regarded as one of China's top celebrities and a former member of the K-pop group EXO, Wu's dramatic fall from grace shows the increasing efforts by Chinese authorities to hold high-profile figures responsible for abuse and crime.
He is expected to serve his full sentence in a Chinese prison before being deported to Canada, where he is a citizen.
The 10-year ban on re-entry effectively ends his career in the country where he once held significant influence.
