The story takes place in a made-up 21st-century South Korea that has a constitutional monarchy. The story is about Seong Hee Joo, played by IU, a rich woman who can't do what she wants because she's a commoner, and Grand Prince Ian, played by Byeon Woo Seok, the king's son who has a royal title but no real power.

The two characters get married in a contract marriage to try to change their fates. The social hierarchies that exist in society create barriers for people expressing themselves and their hopes; therefore, the strictness of these social hierarchies prevents individuals from confronting their true ambition and desires in life.

After the teaser was released, conversations surrounding it started surfacing across many social media platforms, as well as throughout various types of online communities. Koreaboo says that the trailer focused on the show's premise, elaborate sets, and detailed costumes, but most of the talk was about the two leads' performances instead of the story itself.

As part of this reaction, people on the internet started posting harsh reviews of the acting in the teaser. Someone commented, "His acting is so cringy," as an example of this kind of response. Another viewer, who was more careful, said, "Hmm... feels like it might be popular overseas."

Byeon Woo Seok, who became very popular very quickly in 2025, seemed to be the main person people were upset with. One person on the internet said, "When is the male lead going to improve his acting..." This shows that they are worried about his growth as an actor. Another person said, "Acting hasn't changed."

Some people who watched the drama also talked about how it looked. One user said, "Wow, kinda looks like a palace lol. Should be fun." Some people compared the two leads directly. One person said, "IU's tone fits perfectly, but Byun Woo Seok only has a nice voice, no sense of authority at all...."

The conversation continued on the Korean community site theqoo, where people still had different opinions. One post said, "Chemistry is so-so, but the story concept seems interesting." This was in response to the chemistry between the leads. Most of the early comments were negative, but some people pointed out that the trailer was just a short preview of the whole series.

Those following the entertainment industry have observed that typically first impressions of teasers do not necessarily correlate with the way audiences will eventually feel about a television drama after the series premieres.

The audience also needs to be cautious that their perceptions may be altered when they see the character development and story-line unfolding, considering that Perfect Crown is making its television debut in the coming months.
