Netflix's much-awaited original series "The Wonder Fools" is now in a state of uncertainty due to allegations that ASTRO's Cha Eun Woo has avoided around 20 billion KRW (approximately USD 15 million) in taxes. The series, which is expected to be out in the second quarter of 2026, has been making waves due to the pairing of Cha Eun Woo and award-winning actress Park Eun Bin.

The series, produced by Romantic Crew and Kakao Entertainment with Fantagio as a co-producer, is set in 1999 and follows a group of neighbors who unexpectedly gain superpowers and band together to fight villains threatening the peace of Haeseong City. Director Yoo In Shik, known for Extraordinary Attorney Woo, and writer Heo Da Jung, who worked on the film adaptation of Extreme Job, helmed the project.
At the January 21 event Next on Netflix 2026 Korea, Park Eun Bin shared her thoughts on working with Cha Eun Woo. Introducing her co-star, she said, "He's currently fulfilling his mandatory military service, so I decided to work even harder to promote the series on his behalf. I hope he returns in glory."
The following day, however, Cha Eun Woo became the focus of controversy, as reports of his alleged tax evasion emerged, casting uncertainty over the series' promotional plans. AllKpop noted that while Cha is currently serving in the military, the timing of the scandal has overshadowed Park Eun Bin's message of support and raised questions about whether the series will proceed as originally planned.

Fans and industry observers have weighed in online about the potential impact on the show. Sportskeeda reported that anticipation for 'The Wonder Fools" remains high, thanks in part to the ensemble cast, including Choi Dae Hoon, Lim Sung Jae, Kim Hae Sook, and Son Hyun Joo. One online commentator said, "The series had all the right ingredients—chaotic superheroes, a nostalgic 90s backdrop, and talented leads. This news just complicates things."

Another source highlighted the resilience of Park Eun Bin's involvement. "She has expressed determination to promote the series herself while Cha Eun Woo is away," Sportskeeda added, emphasizing that her commitment may help maintain momentum for the project.
As Netflix navigates the controversy surrounding Cha Eun Woo, the fate of The Wonder Fools remains uncertain. Audiences and fans continue to watch closely, eager to see if the series can launch smoothly despite the challenges posed by the scandal.
