So Ji Sub is obviously a talented actor and he can be a very funny one as viewers learned from his first comic role in "The Master's Sun."

But what many people don't know about this former model, actor and occasional rapper is how closely he follows and even invests in the international film industry.

Whether he acquired his business sense from playing Kang In Wook, a man who worked for his family in "Something Happened in Bali" or the Kingdom Mall heir Joo Joong Won in "The Master's Sun," the actor apparently he has a good sense of what it takes to make a smart investment.

His recent film investment, "Philomena," is already the recipient of several awards and up for several more. That international production stars British actress and multiple award-winner Judi Dench. The actress has won 10 BAFTA awards for her television and film roles. She became an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1970, and was created Dame of Order of the British Empire in 1988.

"Philomena" is based on the novel, "The Lost Child of Philomena Lee," which was written by Martin Sixsmith. It's the story of a woman who searches for the son that was taken away from her when she was sent to a convent. Steve Coogan is one of the screenplay's writers but he also plays the author who chronicles her story.

The film already received the People's Choice Award Runner-Up Prize at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. It is nominated in four categories at the 2014 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actress. It has four BAFTA nominations and three Golden Globe nominations.

So Ji Sub and his entertainment agency invested $51,000 in the movie and that figure may be telling. The name of his entertainment agency is 51K. He also owned A Twosome Place café, named A Twosome Place 51K. Such cafes are a smart investment, as they always seem to turn up in dramas. Scenes in "The Master's Sun" were also filmed there.

Why 51K though? What's the significance? The K stands for Korea. And the number 51 means something special to the actor. According to So Ji Sub, there is a big difference between 49 percent of something and 51 percent of something. Achieving that difference means devoting just a little extra effort. He strives for 51 percent in everything he does.

So, when you watch the Academy Awards this year, you can cheer for So Ji Sub's 51 percent by hoping that "Philomena" wins at least one award.
