Dr. Dre is on its way of being the richest hiphop artists if he wins this lawsuit.
The rapper-slash-producer, responsible for Eminem and Snoop Dogg's popularity, is suing his former label for $3 million in unpaid royalties for the work he did while he was still part of Death Row Records, Radar Online reported.
The producer enumerated in his affidavit he filed in Los Angeles in December the expenses that needs to go in his bank account: $1,200,386.57 in unpaid artist-producer royalties, $1,179,913 from digital sales and $676,444.44 for unpaid mechanical royalties.
It was by the judge's suggestion that the digital sales' estimate came about after Dr. Dre's 2010 trademark infringement suit loss.
The "California Love" rapper who is also "The Beats" head executive said that his former label, Death Row Records, did not honor a deal where his royalty rate will be bumped to 20 percent from 18 percent.
Dr. Dre 's classic solo album "The Chronic", now one of the most influential album of all time, was released under Death Row Records. He also worked with a lot of projects that garnered critical success like Snoop Dogg's "Doggstyle", Tha Dogg Pound's "Doggfood" and Tupac's "All Eyez On Me" while with the label.
Death Row Records was headed by the controversial Marion "Suge" Knight after Dr. Dre vacated his post in mid-1990's. The label was acquired in 2006 by WIDEawake which now bills itself as WIDEawake Death Row Entertainment, as mentioned in their official website.
Dr Dre was part of the "richest artist in hip-hop" by Forbes last year, coming in third place. The former N.W.A. member raked $40 million while 'P Diddy' led the pack with $50 million, followed closely by "Mr. Beyonce" Jay-Z, reportedly earning $43 million.
The list also featured Nicki Minaj, Birdman, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Ludacris and Pitbull.
