Sam Worthingthon has been arrested in Greenwich Village, New York for punching a photographer after he kicked Sam Worthingthon's long-time girlfriend Lara Bingle in the shin.
During the scuffle, Sam Worthingthon was said to have referred to Lara Bingle as his "wife", yelling at the photographer, "you kicked my wife!" which suggests that the "Avatar" star is secretly married to Bingle.
The photographer was identified as Sheng Li and according to New York Police Department Lieutenant John Grimpel, the incident broke out at 5:30pm at the Cubbyhole Bar in Greenwich.
"The photographer kicked Lara and then Worthington punched him causing the photographer to have lacerations to his nose," he added. "He has been charged with assault. He punched the photographer."
Worthington was charged and has been released on bail but must appear in court on February 26. "He was given a desk appearance ticket which means he has to go back to court at a later date."
Bingle reportedly suffered bruises to her shin.
Sheng Li suffered a laceration to his nose as well as bruising, but did not require hospital treatment.
Li was also arrested and charge for assault, reckless endangerment and harassment.
"The incident occurred on the street. A photographer was following his girlfriend; he wouldn't let her pass and was blocking her path. Then for some reason he kicked her in the leg," Lieutenant Grimpel said.
This is not the first time Worthington has faced legal problems. Today's attack marks his second scuffle with a photographer, and the 36-year-old was also pepper sprayed and arrested after being denied entry to the a restaurant in Atlanta back in 2012.
Most recently, the couple have been spotted out and about in New York City with Worthingthon sporting a gold band on his left ring finger while his supermodel sweetheart hasn't been shy about flaunting her own matching ring sparking rumors that the two have secretly tied the knot.
Bingle and Worthington began dating in September 2013 after being introduced by a mutual friend.
Earlier this month, the couple made their red carpet debut at the AACTA Awards in Sydney but have been actively sharing their romance on social media.
