Choi Ji Woo, the actress who starred as the robotic housekeeper in "The Suspicious Housekeeper," has signed with YG Entertainment. Although the agency is best known for its top K-pop stars, including Big Bang, Psy, Epik High, Lee Hi and 2NE1, the number of actors they represent is growing.
Despite earlier denials that the actress was in talks with the agency, YG representatives confirmed this week that she is now part of the YG family. The actress formed her own agency in 2010 but decided that being represented by YG offered some advantages, especially when it came to international markets.
Because the actress appeared in such early Hallyu hits as "Winter Sonata" and "Stairway to Heaven," she is well known in Japan and China. The entertainment agency will effectively be able to promote her star power through YG Japan, YG Asia, and other affiliated companies.
"Top Hallyu star Choi Ji Woo's recruitment will strengthen YG, which recently reinforced its management of actors with the addition of Cha Seung Won, Jang Hyun Sung and Lim Ye Jin," read a YG statement.
Although the agency did not previously represent many actors, the ones they did represent have had successful careers. Gu Hye Sun, the star of "Boys Over Flowers," originally signed with the agency planning to debut as a singer, but the agency's CEO Yang Hyun Suk, convinced her to try acting. She acted in several dramas before branching out into writing and directing.
Yoo In Na, who is currently starring in "You Who Came From The Stars" almost became part of a girl group but then gave up on singing and joined the agency in 2006 with the hope of becoming an actress. She has since starred in several dramas, including "Queen Inhyun's Man."
The agency has also helped some of its top k-pop stars make the transition to acting. With the guidance of YG, Choi Seung Hyun also known as T.O.P. of Big Bang has successfully taken roles in dramas and films.
In the last months, the agency recently signed actors Jang Hyun Sung, Lim Ye Jin and Cha Seung Won.
Cha Seung Won, known for his performance in "The Greatest Love," is now preparing for a role in the upcoming drama "You're Surrounded."
Jang Hyun Sung is a character actor who had roles in the film "Monster Boy" and will soon be seen in the drama "Three Days" with Park Yoochun.
Lim Ye Jin appeared in "Level 7 Civil Servant," "Miss Korea" and "Can We Love."
Hopefully, YG will find many interesting new projects for the talented choi Ji Woo to appear in.
