With Moon Geun Young accepting a role as Lady Hyegyeong, the wife of Prince Sado in the film "Sado," it might be time to look back at the various princesses that k-drama lovers have encountered.

There are quite a few princesses in k-dramas, appearing in both historical dramas and modern fantasy settings. So here are a few of our favorites.

Yoon Eun Hye in "Princess Hours" was perhaps the most adorable princess.

Yoon Eun Hye played Shin Chae Kyung, an ordinary schoolgirl who gets the chance to be Cinderella. The fantasy drama wondered what would happen if there was still a royal family in Korea and the Crown Prince married a commoner, much the way British royal Prince Charles married Diana. Shin Chae Kyung is ill prepared for the job but turns into the people's princess with a little practice.

Kim Tae Hee in "My Princess" was an orphan who inherited a crown.

Kim Tae Hee's character Lee Seol grew up an orphan but is really the heiress to the imperial family, which might be restored. She may be the silliest princess in the lot, although she matures by the end of the drama. Kim Tae Hee should, however, get a lot of credit for making Song Seung Hoon gaze at her so adoringly all the way through the drama.

Historical princesses may be the best as they get to wear stunning costumes.

Take Moon Chae Won in "My Princess." Moon Chae Won's Lee Se Ryung not only wears beautiful costumes but she is smart, adventurous and determined to marry the man she loves. She stands up to the cruel ambitions of all those surrounding her and has to battle her family to be with the man she loves. Most Joseon-era princesses probably did not have much say as to whom they married but it's entertaining to think this character did.

And then there is Kim Yoo Jung in "The Moon Embracing The Sun"

Kim Yoo Jung falls for the prince when she is only 13 and the two are happily married. They have an extraordinary chance at happiness denied most royals who had to marry mates of their parents' choosing, but it does not last. Forces plotting against Heo Yeon Woo seem to poison her and a spell or magic potion saves her. But she forgets she is the princess and her young husband mourns for many bitter years.

Another great princess is one disguised as a boy.

Lee Yo Won played Princess Deokman in Queen Seonduk. Deokman was a twin and member of the Silla royal family but a prophecy led to her abandonment. She somehow returns to Silla disguised as a boy and joins forces with her twin sister. Together they triumph over the enemies of the crown and she becomes the first female ruler of Silla as Queen Seonduk.
