'Dae Jang Geum 2' The Production Of the Sequel Depends On Lee Young Ae
PD Lee Byung Hoon said that the production of "Dae Jang Geum 2" will rest on Lee Young Ae's decision.
In the afternoon on the 24th, PD Lee Byung Hoon was in Yongin city, Gyeonggi-do near Baek Am at Yongin Dramia for the press conference for MBC's new Monday-Tuesday drama, "Horse Doctor". At the press conference, he mentioned the hot topic about the production of "Dae Jang Geum 2".
MBC announced that they were planning on producing and airing "Dae Jang Geum 2" next year, receiving a lot of attention. In connection to this announcement, PD Lee Byung Hoon said, "MBC's desire to make 'Dae Jang Geum 2' is really strong. However, the production of 'Dae Jang Geum 2' depends on Lee Young Ae's decision to star in the drama or not."
In 2003, Lee Young Ae solidified her status as a Hallyu star through "Dae Jang Geum". She married in 2009 and gave birth to twins last year. She is currently spending all of her time taking care of her babies, but she continuously receives offers lead roles like in "Dae Jang Geum 2" and more.
PD Lee Byung Hoon met with Lee Young Ae directly to discuss "Dae Jang Geum 2". He said, "Lee Young Ae is hesitant to act in the drama because she wants to care for her infants. However, taking aside her concern for her infants, she said that there is no reason not to appear in the sequel."
PD Lee Byung Hoon explained, "If she decides to film the drama, there is an endless amount of content to film. The story would be about Jang Geum after she has become a mother so the role shouldn't be too burdensome."
However, writer Kim Young Hyun, who holds the rights to "Dae Jang Geum", has firmly told MBC that she has no plans to write the sequel.
