Uncharted 4's 60fps spec isn't a done deal, an interview with top Naughty Dog directors confirmed.

In an interview with Game Informer, co-directors Bruce Stanley and Neil Druckmann mused on the challenges in developing "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" for the PlayStation 4. The duo comments pushing for Uncharted 4 at 60fps is a tough nut to crack.

Naughty Dog developers hurdled the same difficulties with a recent title, though. "The Last of Us: Remastered" turned out great in the PlayStation 4, even though the studio practically reconstructed the ported game from scratch.

It's still unclear whether "Uncharted 4" specs will still feature 60fps, but with "The Last of Us: Remastered" considered as the benchmark.

"I don't know," Druckmann confessed. "The objective for us is just to make the best experience. Right now we're trying to push the look. And then we'll see where we're at, and we'll reassess. We're constantly making choices throughout production though. What's gonna make the game feel best, and look its best."

It's apparent the development team is choked with the demands of pushing the boundaries at 60fps, which is considered the staple frame rate for titles in the current generation of consoles. Druckmann said they at least have a good idea of their mark, with TLOSR released.

"Really f***** hard. I mean, that's true for any game. It was really hard on The Last of Us Remastered. And that's a game we have finished. And we know exactly what the end result needs to look like. And here we're trying to push the boundaries of what this game can look, and do real time cutscenes... And trying to do sixty is really hard."

Photo mode is still in the works, but the co-directors assured the feature would be awesome once it's finalized.

"Uncharted 4" at 60fps could be the best the series has to offer, and it's possible it's the last installment as well. Developers don't have the final say, though, as the franchise is owned by Naughty Dog and Sony. They did confirm the game will wrap up the Nathan Drake story arc (dualshockers.com).
