Good news 'Powerpuff Girls' fans! Almost 18 years after its first episode started airing, the threesome are set to steal audiences' hearts once again.

The beloved animated television series that revolve around three girls with superpowers, Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup has been slated for a 2016 launch.

In a Feb. 19 statement, the network confirmed that "The Powerpuff Girls" reboot will launch sometime in 2016, almost 18 years after the original release in 1998. The show that centers on three sugar-coated super heroines, who fight crime and the forces of evil, earned two Emmy Awards, five nominations and many honors through its 78-episode run. According to the statement, Animation Director Nick Jennings, who is best known for his work on the Nickelodean series "Spongebob SquarePants" and Cartoon Network series "Adventure Time," is on board as executive producer. Jennings is a BAFTA and Emmy award winner.

According to TheMarySue, chief content officer Rob Sorcher said in a statement that citing the overwhelming demand for sugar, spice and Chemical X, the network is "calling these girls back into action."

Nevertheless, this is not the first new Powerpuff series to make it on TV since the original series first went off the air in 2005. According to TheMarySue, there was a 10th anniversary special on Cartoon Network in 2009 and also a 2006 Japanese magical girl anime (PPGZ) that never made it to American television. It's not yet known if the original PPG creator Craig McCracken will have an input once again.

The announcement stirred speculations surrounding a revamped art-style. Here are some possible directions that MoviePilot says, producers might go in..

Blossom-chan, Bubble-chan and Butter-chan

The anime-style interpretation of the three girls is definitely striking. Although, Cartoon Network may not opt for Japanese-influenced art, it could be something to look at.

Issue 6 of PPG's tie-in comic featured this somewhat sexualized image on its controversial cover. Considering it's an officially approved piece of art, it won't be a surprise if 'sexing' up the PPGs was being thought-about.
