"IRIS 2" Jack Hyuk, "The Excitement Finally Came Back"

Advertised as the $20 million production, the KBS drama "IRIS 2" has been receiving unexpectedly low viewing rates. It reached the point where the viewing rates were only one digit and even ranked last. After recent episodes however, "IRIS 2" seems to be making a comeback with new issues developing and male character Jung Yoo Gun (Jang Hyuk) coming back into the picture.

In the past, "IRIS 2" had trouble making the drama seem realistic. Viewers criticized the drama from the first episode for its weak story line even though the action scenes were impressive.

In "IRIS 2", North Korea and South Korea are constantly making attempts to communicate with each other and try to come to an agreement on achieving peace. However, their efforts constantly fail because of the terrorist group IRIS. This may be the reason the story didn't seem realistic since the news show that this is not the case.

However, the tension between the North and the South became more realistic recently in the episode that aired on March 14. The North Koreans threaten the South with atomic missiles because of mysterious murders that occur during a conference.

Also, Jung Yoo Gun's memories returned and escaped from IRIS with the help from Rie (Yoo Min). Jung Yoo Gun had forgotten everything when he was shot in the head by an IRIS sniper. IRIS agents lied to him that he is an IRIS agent named Ken so he had been working for IRIS for the past few episodes.

This week's episode of "IRIS 2" will feature Jang Hyuk as a main character again and return to Lee Da Hae's (Ji Soo Yeon) arms. It has been suggested that the reason "IRIS 2" didn't succeed as much as it should have in the beginning is because the actor Jang Hyuk was not used enough to his full potential. After he lost his memory, he appeared for about mere 5 minutes in the whole episode. A good drama "utilizes" the ability of its main characters well and it should also bring out their potential. Hopefully in the episodes to come, Jang Hyuk will be able to shine through.
