Strong rumors doing rounds suggest that a new Apple flagship smartphone called the iPhone 7 is in the making, with a release date slated to be earlier than expected.

While rumors doing rounds hint that Apple's next flagship smartphone would be called iPhone 7, another rumor suggesting that the company is working on a smaller 4-inch version called the iPhone 7C has been brought forth.

If speculations are anything to go by, the next flagship smartphone from Apple, the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus will be released in September, when the company usually launches its latest smartphones.

There is a possibility that Apple might launch its latest smartphone on Sept. 8 citing that the company released iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus on Sept. 9, iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S on Sept. 10, iPhone 5 on Sept. 12. Apple opts for either Tuesday or Wednesday launches, more often Tuesdays so Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015 is a fitting release date.

Another rumor hinted that Apple would be unveiling three flagship smartphones: iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and the iPhone 6C, according to reports on Master Herald.

That being said, Apple is still keeping its next set of iPhones under wraps so these are just speculations at this time.

Going against the traditional release if it's set to release an iPhone 7 rather than an iPhone 6S. Considering that the tech giant released iPhone3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S and now iPhone 6 along with the iPhone 6 Plus, an iPhone 6S was expected. Apparently history will not repeat itself, PC Advisor noted.

Apple, however has surprised its users in the past by releasing an iPhone 5C along with iPhone 5S in 2013, and an iPhone 6 Plus along with iPhone 6 last year.

Judging by the looks of it, there is also a possibility that Apple might decide to get rid of the numbers completely and maybe just stick with iPhone, iPhone Plus and iPhone C, or scrap the "S" models and launch an iPhone 7.

As far as the release is concerned, another rumor doing rounds suggested iPhone 7 could actually launch in August, weeks earlier than expected. According to records on The Economic Daily News, the supply-chain sources claim that the iPhone 7 is in production already and will launch a month earlier than expected.

However, these speculations need to be taken with a pinch of salt until Apple confirms the actual release date.
