Parent company of publisher 2K Games, Take-Two Interactive, has reportedly registered domains for "Mafia 3," suggesting the third installment in the franchise is in production.

Reports on NeoGAF noted the domains "mafia3thegame.com," "mafiaiiithegame.com," "mafiathree.com," and "mafiathreethegame.com."

Another report from Daily Changes, a website that tracks domain registrations suggests that the domains were registered June 25. Rumors doing rounds back in March last year hinted that the publisher have put out a casting call for what seemed like a "Mafia" game. The document contained references to Louisiana, probably pointing to the game's setting.

In addition, actor Rick Pasqualone teased Mafia news on Twitter and added fuel to speculations hinting "Mafia 3" was indeed in the making.  Several fans believed an E3 announcement would be fitting; however E3 came and went without any announcement about an upcoming Hitman from 2K.

The third installment in the "Mafia" series was actually revealed as a launch title for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2012, but that too didn't happen.

Usually publishers take steps to mask their name on things such as domain registrations and trademark applications, however this time the domain's WhoIs entry was screen capped by GameInformer before all mention of Take-Two Games was taken out.

If the new domain registrations are anything to go by, fans can anticipate a "Mafia 3" revealed at Gamescom which is scheduled to take place Aug. 5-9.

"Mafia 3" is one of the most-anticipated titles of the year. The storyline will reportedly center on the city gangsters and how they wish to survive and assert their authority in the various underground schemes.

Moreover, the casting call conducted by Take-Two Interactive for three different characters born in Louisiana indicated that these actors were supposed to take on the roles of Franklin, Toney and Mickey.

But that's not all; several reports from WCCFTech further suggest that these actors will be used for image likeness, facial scan as well as motion capture.
