Lee Sun Gyun Found Dead Amid Drug Allegations

On December 27, Korean media outlets shocked the public following the reports that Korean actor Lee Sun Gyun had died. According to the news, the "Parasite" actor was found dead in an apparent suicide. 

The authorities revealed that a man in his forties was found unconscious in a car at a park in central Seoul at 10: 30 am on December 27. The police immediately identified him as Lee Sun Gyun, who was sitting in the passenger seat where a charcoal briquette was also found.

Before the incident happened, the police received a report that the "Coffee Prince" star left home after writing a suicide note.

Lee Sun Gyun Under Investigation Over Suspected Drug Use

The veteran actor is in the middle of an investigation over suspected drug use. It has been said that the K-drama actor has gone through three rounds of police interviews on suspicions of using marijuana and other illegal drugs at a high-end bar in Seoul's Gangnam district. He has been accused of using the drugs on multiple occasions since early 2023.

Lee Sun Gyun claimed that he was tricked by the hostess into taking the drugs and he did not know what he was taking.

Based on the investigation conducted earlier, he tested negative in both the brief reagent and the lab-based drug test by the National Forensic Service last November.

Lee Sun Gyun's Departure in K-Drama 'No Way Out'

Following his involvement in drugs, the 48-year-old actor dropped out of the drama "No Way Out." He was supposed to lead the series alongside big stars Yoo Jae Myung, Kim Moo Yul, and Lee Kwang Soo.

The filming started on October 16, 2023, and the Incheon Police revealed their drug investigation on October 18. According to the source, Lee Sun Gyun did not film any scenes yet for the series prior to his departure as he was scheduled to start filming on October 21, 2023.

The production had a two-week hiatus to look for an actor to fill in Lee Sun Gyun's position. His upcoming series "Dr. Brain 2" also suspends production plan due to the ongoing controversy of the actor.
